Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours pitch black with a fine half finger light brown head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of fresh ground coffee, chocolate, sweet dark toasted malt. Flavor is a nice blend of coffee, coconut, milk cocoa, toasted malt, faint vanilla finishing with cocoa and slight hop bitterness. Medium bodied with hints of creaminess. An overall perfectly balanced coffee and coconut porter with deft addition of both flavors while leaving the slightly sweet dark malt flavors at the fore. I liked this quit a bit. This seems to be the same recipe as the Bellingham Beer Week imperial porter from last year, but this had a more satisfying mouth feel and very nice fresh coffee aromas. I hope this becomes a standard rotational beer for Fremont. Nice.

Poured from a bomber into a Fremont goblet on 05.21.14.

A: Midnight black with some red at the bottom. No head, but has a tan ring at the top.

S: Coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, caramel. Sweet smelling.

T: Black coffee is dominant. Char is subtle.

M: Watery and overly carbonated. There was a big fizz when pouring, like soda.

O: This was a rare miss for Fremont. It tasted good, but only like coffee. There was no vanilla or coconut as the label read. It was also way too bubbly and watery for a porter. Knowing Fremont and from what other reviewers have written, I wonder about the bottle that I got.

Another thanks to rudzud

Decent smaller dark creamy head, no lacing decent legs, pretty much pitch black.

Nose nice coffee and coconut, lots of coconut oils, fresh roasty coffee, little nougat fluffy carafa, mild dark choc, very mild acrid roast char, mild creaminess. No vanilla.

Taste creamy, nice coconut and coffee right off, fresh roasted coffee, little nutty coffee, mild overall roasty, little chewy too, with fair to mild coconut, into nice bakers choc, and nice but interesting earthy hops, little creamy oats and creamy chocolate. Finish is little drier but sticky, little creamy, etc.

Mouth is med bod, weird gritty and creamy feel on top, decent carb.

Overall interesting but not as good I expected. Coconut is nice on the nose but little on the flavor, decent coffee,

Received as an extra, shared with JLindros and Threelions.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown nearly black hue with a Nice thin mocha head that faded to leave light wisps.

S - Big aromas of coffee, good coconut, no vanilla. Hmm, smells really nice.

T - Taste is really nice coffee, definitely overshadows everything else. Faint chocolate nice, pleasant, no vanilla, light coconut. Mostly just big coffee notes.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly creamy, interesting.

O - Overall this was a tasty beer. Nice coffee, good and tasty.

A - Black with ochre foam.

S - Espresso coffee and roasted malt.

T - A little metallic. Burned malt flavours. Coffee mainly. Not much in the way of vanilla or coconut unfortunately.

M - Thick enough with decent carbonation.

O - Isn't doing anything wrong particularly, although the lack of coconut and vanilla is a little disappointing. It's overall quite bitter and lacks milder, sweeter notes to round it out.

22oz bottle at 41 F split into a pair of chalices. 174 M 0237 201 is the bottle code.

Pours black, with a small head. Head fades slowly. It's opaque, but evidently there is some active carbonation. Smell is very portery. Perhaps even imperially so. Aside from obvious roastiness, there's clearly vanilla and coffee.

Taste is dark fruit, lots of bitter coffee flavor, more dark fruit, lots of roast bitterness.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly light, though not thin. Overall, it's pretty good.
