Our hero, Dark Heron, was exiled from her flock for daring to express herself differently from the rest. Forever banished from the heron fold, Dark Heron vowed to never sacrifice her right of free expression to the tyranny of conformity. Dark Heron stands as a beacon of light and justice, calling to all those who seek to protect the freedom of expression! Dare to be different!

Bottle from Main Market Co-op. Medium golden with small frothy head. Light grainy aroma, hops come in with bitterness, caramel malts, hint of sweetness. Straightforward IPA

Canned 29 Jan 2019, purchased at The Beermongers.
A hazy orange with a floppy white head that falls off rapidly leaving little lacing, this looks solid. The nose is the standard fruit juice that this style has, with orange, passionfruit, kiwi and some tangerine. Notes of oat and mild grain are present. The palate opens juicy with peach, passionfruit, kiwi, and a crisp citrus note. Bitterness is mild, with a grainy acidity coupled with a bicarbonate like effervescence that lends a mildly mineral-like acidity. Flavor of oats close out the palate before a mild, juicy finish. Light in body, moderately carbonated, this beer is solid.

22oz bottle of Fremont Dark Heron ("OFFICIAL BEER OF EMERALD CITY COMICON"). No date apparent, but this would seem to be a 2017 bottling. I was hoping for a dark IPA / CDA, but oh well, Fremont's done well for me so far. This one appears very traditional pale golden and forms a healthy medium white head. More noticeable is the encompassing aroma of a brewery at dry hopping time. Very green, and to my nose, vegetal. Flavor is oldschool high-Alpha C-hop straight down the middle of the tongue bitterness, with very very little in the way of malt backbone. Which makes no sense because the hop bill on this one should be full of fruit flavors, but again, to my palate this is all pine forest and grapefruit pith. The mouthfeel does have some substance to it, which is nice. This beer's not bad but I think I'd prefer an old familiar Interurban.

Poured into a taster glass.
A: A bright amber with off-white one-finger head that lingered.
S: Resin, tropical fruits (mango, oranges, grapefruit).
T: Grapefruit flies in with a caramel backbone and floral essences surrounded by tropical fruits. A bit of bready malts on the finish for balance. Lightly bitter and thoroughly drinkable.
M: Low to medium with medium carbonation.
O: Glad I got to try this limited brew. Sorry I missed the release at Fremont. Would love to have seen the ladies dressed up like Dark Heron.
