Pours a light golden color with really nice head and some good lacing. One of my favorite aspects of this beer is the look. In fact, I'm not sure that I've seen a pale ale that looks this good. Smell is pretty mild. I get some floral notes, but it's fairly muted. Tastes great! Slight floral taste, but also a huge citrus taste that dominates - grapefruit, lemon, orange. Fairly pronounced bitterness, but it's very pleasant. I haven't had many pale ales but this is the best tasting one I've had thus far. Really really good stuff.

Delicious. Fremont Brewery nailed this summer pale; not surprising because Seattle does love its craft brews, but overall pleased with a younger brewery being able to produce such a tasty treat. Crisp, light, hoppy, and fresh with a slight nuance of orange.

Can (2013)

Acquired via trade
Thanks, FalconA!

Lightly hazed golden with a persistent, moderately-sized off whit head. Very sticky, lined lacing down the glass. Pretty pale ale.

Nice, sweet, and hoppy aroma. Sweet citrus flesh and zest along with floral and biscuit notes. Nice and bright.

Moderate bitterness for the style, and the flavors follow the aroma. Pleasant combination of sweet, bright citrus notes, mild biscuit, and some floral character as well. Very drinkable, disappearing, refreshing summer pale ale.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Very tasty pale ale from a can. Highly approve!

Medium to white to slightly off white head settles into a nice lacing above a cloudy pale straw golden colored beer that seems to be well carbonated.

A light citrus hops aroma that borders on having a lemony twang to it that seems to kind of drowned out the light malts trying to break through.

Light citrus hops and lighter even on the malted grains taste that give this beer a good drink-ability.

A light dryish aftertaste with a lemony citrus taste to it on this light bodied beer.

A pretty good summer beer, I think they gave this beer the right name.

22oz bomber, called "Summer Solstice" on the bottle I have, procured via a late night jaunt to a QFC not far from the Canuck catching up and the drinkin' on a Saturday night in the South Lake Union area of downtown Seattle.

This beer pours a clear medium golden hue, with one finger of soapy white head, which leaves but a few specks of ambitious lace around the glass in its wake. It smells of bitter grapefruit pith and pine hops, atop a mild grainy malt. The taste is soft pale malt, and bitter grassy, piney hops. The carbonation is moderate, the body medium-light in weight, and smooth enough. It finishes hoppy, hoppy, hoppy, with a mild cracker malt offset. Did I say hoppy? If not, then, well, yeah, fucking hoppy!

Wow, not what I expected from anything with "Summer" in the name. An APA hopped to the nuts, but without the corresponding malt character to deserve IPA analysis. So what - 3 bucks of bitter goodness - let's leave it at that.

This pours orange-gold with a consistent white head.

The nose is hop forward with some background notes of citrus fruit.

This shows layers of grainy malt, grapefruit & lemon zest. Extremely flavorful & bright. Hops are quite present on the finish.

Medium bodied, approachable & easy to drink. This brings a freshness that adds to the enjoyment of the hoppy flavors of this beer.

Delicious summer ale. Very distinctive with the Amarillo hops & certainly even more impressive fresh on tap. A beer I could drink every day.

On-tap at Locol in Seattle, WA. July 30th, 2011.

A: The beer poured a clear yellow color with a slight orange tinge. There was only a small head of foam that dissipated quickly. Lacing was minimal but clung to the glass and did not vanish.

S: Solstice gives off a light, fruity hop aroma with hints of oily orange peel and tangerine.

T: The taste is a very refreshing mixture of citrusy hops and malt. Extremely crisp and light, nowhere close to being an overpowering pale ale.

M: Very crisp mouth feel with a light body and medium carbonation.

O: This is a fantastic summer ale that should easily appeal to both craft and BMC fans. The hops and malt are present and well-balanced, but this beer is so light and refreshing that it shouldn't intimidate anyone looking for something on a hot day.

12oz can poured into a stange type glass. No date on the can. Beer pours a pale golden color, clear, with a moderate white head. Carbonation like soda. Faint but pleasant floral hop aroma. Taste is similar: delivers a solid dose of IBUs, floral (all Amarillo per the can). Result is fairly citrusy, too. Light on malt and mouthfeel, but moderate-high carbonation lends to a refreshing, easy on a warm night, beer. Nothing complex here, just a high quality execution of a simple style.

on-cask at the brewery

solstice pale run through lavender, rose hips and lemongrass.

appearance: lifeless hazy orange-amber...very much a cask pour with no head

smell: strong floral notes - the local lavender really comes through strong along with hoppy notes and a bit of lemon

taste: big floral notes from the lavender and rose hips - the base beer almost gets lost in the cask additions, but the citrus hops and lemongrass do come through. nice summery beer, but the cask versions take on entirely different identities than the base

mouthfeel: medium-light body, refreshing

overall: good
