For such a simple beer, made with only pale malt and amarillo hops, there is a lot going on taste wise. This beer has citrus and grassy flavors and a good balance between hops and malt. Effervescent and perfect for a summer day. This is my go-to summer beer. So good!

Best Summer Ale I've had in a while. Does all the things you can ask for in a seasonal offering. Matches the season with refreshment and taste.

Had as part of a sampler at the brewery. Overshadowed by the other beers and seemed too simple. Nothing stood out in this beer.

Nice creamy head but not my favorite despite the rave reviews. Too simple? Very citrus taste that isn't balanced by anything in additional hops or malts. Pretty one note. Do not understand the high rating. Maybe it's just not hot enough yet to enjoy properly.

Pale yellow, massive white head sticks around and sticks to the sides.

Lemon bitter and sweet, Something a little musky and tart lurking in the back.

Taste starts off with a muted citrus blossom type approach. Personally I'd hope for a slightly juicier aspect to it, though maybe fresher it has more of that. Where the aroma was definitely more lemon citrus, this is more satsuma and orange. Subtle. A definite wallop of bitter though, five, ten years ago I would say this would solidly be an IPA.
Smoothe and crisp, carbonation may be a touch high, but overall very drinkable. An enjoyable drink, but doesn't quite reach the lofty standards set forth for it in my opinion. Fremont can't make a bad beer.

Hops: Amarillo.
Malt: 2-row.

Poured from a bomber into a tumbler on 01.24.14.

A: See through gold. 1 finger head.

S: Grapefruit. Very citrusy.

T: Tangerine dominant. Grapefruit, pine, subtle malt.

M: Crisp. Good carbonation.

O: This is a tangerine bomb. The first time that I had this, I was surprised by the flavor. It's now a summer staple for me.

S-citrus, tropical fruit, floral, grains

T-grainy malt, grapefruit, pineapple, floral, slight herbal, moderate bitter finish

F-light to medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp

O-this was a really enjoyable pale ale, hard to believe its a one grain/one hop beer, kudos to the brewers

Tasted 23 May 2013. Somehow I misplaced my notes from this, and just found them now. Tasted out in the woods, camping roadside in Mt. Baker - Snoqualmie National Forest.

Pours a nice pale golden amber-yellow. 95% clear; I can see through it, but there's a little blur to my fingers on the other side. Streams of bubbles spiraling up. Two fingers of white head with just a little yellow to it, dense and foamy. Stick archipelagos of lacing on the glass.

Has a really nice citrus hop smell. Pretty sweet, like sweet oranges. Very nice. A little bit of tang, like a clementine with that tangy sweet orange. Good support from the malts. Main complaint is the faintness.

Taste is quite clean and crisp, with just enough bitterness to be refreshing but not so much as to overtop other flavors. Just that little hop bite for crispness is an excellent balance to the sweetness. Citrus flavor comes through a bit, which pleases me, as it's rare that those softer hop characters come through in the taste.

Feel is really light. Clean and thin, with a little tingle of carbonation. Just the perfect amount of carb, and it comes late, right as the bitterness from the hops is popping up.

A really good, clean, nicely dry-hopped pale ale. Not on the level of PseudoSue or Zombie Dust, but definitely in that top tier below those two standouts. I like the citrus and the twang in the smell. I like the taste. Nothing fancy, but a really smooth, clean, enjoyable beer. Like taking a decent pale ale and pulling everything bad out of it. Not chock full of greatness, but there's nothing bad I can possibly come up with to say about it.

I bought a bomber of Fremont Summer Ale in a grocery store. Poured in to a pint glass.

Pours a pale gold color, clear with a few bubbles rising in the glass, and capped by a frothy stark white head.

Smell is sweet and floral, an orange blossom aroma, with some soft fruit scents along side, like pears and honeydew melons.

Taste is a light sweet bread flavor up front, with a hint of pineapple and dry coriander spice finish, and a mildly bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is light and clean.

Overall a very tastey and drinkable summer ale. Perfect for a warm August day.

Can (2013)

Acquired via trade
Thanks, FalconA!

Lightly hazed golden with a persistent, moderately-sized off whit head. Very sticky, lined lacing down the glass. Pretty pale ale.

Nice, sweet, and hoppy aroma. Sweet citrus flesh and zest along with floral and biscuit notes. Nice and bright.

Moderate bitterness for the style, and the flavors follow the aroma. Pleasant combination of sweet, bright citrus notes, mild biscuit, and some floral character as well. Very drinkable, disappearing, refreshing summer pale ale.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Very tasty pale ale from a can. Highly approve!

6/18/13 bottling date into a new holland pint glass

pours a crisp bright yellow color with a big, lasting white head. quite the attractive summer pour.

smell is..actually good and hoppy with a hint of orange. very unexpected and pleasant.

the taste starts out with a good bit of hops followed by an intense malty, orangy backbone. very flavorful and refreshing. easy drinker with a body on the lighter side of medium and with medium carbonation. goes down extremely smooth.

overall im very impressed by this one. wasn't expecting much honestly after first seeing it, but boy was i wrong. this is a superb summer beer that i could drink all day!

This pours orange-gold with a consistent white head.

The nose is hop forward with some background notes of citrus fruit.

This shows layers of grainy malt, grapefruit & lemon zest. Extremely flavorful & bright. Hops are quite present on the finish.

Medium bodied, approachable & easy to drink. This brings a freshness that adds to the enjoyment of the hoppy flavors of this beer.

Delicious summer ale. Very distinctive with the Amarillo hops & certainly even more impressive fresh on tap. A beer I could drink every day.

Medium to white to slightly off white head settles into a nice lacing above a cloudy pale straw golden colored beer that seems to be well carbonated.

A light citrus hops aroma that borders on having a lemony twang to it that seems to kind of drowned out the light malts trying to break through.

Light citrus hops and lighter even on the malted grains taste that give this beer a good drink-ability.

A light dryish aftertaste with a lemony citrus taste to it on this light bodied beer.

A pretty good summer beer, I think they gave this beer the right name.

12 oz can from vlad poured (multiple times) into a 10 oz firestone pint with nucleation

Appearance: pours a brilliant transparent gold with a clean white head that is about 2 fingers. After it falls, the nucleation helps keep about 1/4" of head on the beer at all times.

Smell: Has a nice hoppy smell with a decent amount of malt character for a summer beer. Strong citrus notes of lemon. Really nice.

Taste: Awesome summer beer flavor. So clean and crisp, but extremely flavorful. Starts with lemon and tangerine, and finishes with a direct bitterness that is not at all overwhelming. This is an ideal beer for taking on a hike on a nice summer day.

Mouthfeel: Again, a great mouthfeel. A little thin, but that is to be expected for the ABV. Nice and creamy, with a little zing of bitterness on the finish.

Overall: This may be my favorite summer beer I have ever had. Really superb, extremely well crafted beer. My second experience from Fremont and I am extremely impressed.

Appearance: Arrives with a clear golden color and a nice head that leaves a sheet of lace

Smell: Lemony, with other tropical fruit tones; biscuity malts underneath

Taste: A bit of biscuity malt, and then a fair amount of lemon and other tropical fruit flavor; slightly bitter and grassy; crisp in the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate but crisp carbonation

Overall: This is a very nice, hoppy summer beverage

Thanks, mabermud, for the chance to revisit in the can

This beer was a "throw-in" on my huge order with the good people at Malt and Vine. No doubt they were trying to clear out summer beers, but that would not stop me from enjoying it. The beer poured golden yellow color with a generous white head. It showed a certain degree of lacing in the glass with noted retention. In the aroma, one gets hoppy grapefruit notes. Obviously, this is a summer ale because of the fruity hop notes. Rather than a sweet fruity hoppiness, this one targets more tart citrus fruits in the hops. In the initial taste, one gets mild lemon, tart grapefruit, and a noted grassiness. This was a very bubbly beer, so the taste gets brushed away too quickly. The fruit notes fade quickly in the aftertaste, morphing into a grassy aftertaste. Overall an above average APA, though it did not exactly knock my socks off.

Thanks to bfg75 & pwnzilla for sending me bombers as extras a week or so apart. Since it's supposed to be 49 degrees tonight, I guess it's time to finish off the summer beers, eh? 22 oz. bomber split with my wife.

Pops open & there's a yeast ring around the neck - odd, it's been upright for at least two weeks, must be sticky stuff. Pour is bright yellow, clear, left the last ounce in the bottle. Smell is pleasantly floral hops & bright citrus. Very nice.

Fremont Summer Ale is like perfume that smells great until it gets your allergies kick started & your nose starts to run. Or maybe that's just fall for me. That excellent nose morphs into a rather muddled pale. Light sweetness from the malts, lemony, bit of spice, citrus, ending up with a pretty good hop bite. Grows on me as the liquid level drops & it warms a bit. Drinkable.

Well-named beer. They could have gone Lawnmower, Patio, Cabin, but Summer works. Light, easy to sip, simple. Good, solid brew.

Appearance: Clear and light yellow. Thin head that laced all the way down the glass.

Smell: faint orange or tangerine. Little to no malt aromas.

Taste: medium-light malt profile. Light fruit hop flavoring and piney bittering.

Mouthfeel: medium carbonated. Dry. Medium to light body. Think Candice Swanapoel.

Overall: good Pale ale. Easy to drink. Not over the top on malt, hop, or alcohol characters.

[Suggested Glassware: Shaker Glass]

The pour was a clear pale yellow with a colossal (4 or more fingers) white foamy head that receded very slowly lasting throughout and had some excellent sticky spotty lacing.

The aroma was exceptionally aromatic with a grain malt, perfume and floral hops and a light sweet yeast with notes of mango, pineapple and citrus (orange).

The taste was lightly sweet with a big tropical fruit note in the beginning, and then had a slight citrus peel bitterness with a nice fruit presence at the end. The flavor lasted an extremely long time after consumption, allowing for a most wonderful drinking experience.

Mouthfeel was light in body and dry in texture with a good strong ticklish carbonation.

Overall a fantastic Pale Ale with the flavors melding in such a fashion, that it created an extremely tasty and drinkable brew…

12oz can poured into a stange type glass. No date on the can. Beer pours a pale golden color, clear, with a moderate white head. Carbonation like soda. Faint but pleasant floral hop aroma. Taste is similar: delivers a solid dose of IBUs, floral (all Amarillo per the can). Result is fairly citrusy, too. Light on malt and mouthfeel, but moderate-high carbonation lends to a refreshing, easy on a warm night, beer. Nothing complex here, just a high quality execution of a simple style.

Canned: earlier.

Pours a nice light grain yellow with a sheet of white atop the ale and below the spotty lace. Smells of grapefruit, mangos, peaches, hints of caramel malt and some resin. Nice nose. Really nice nose. Flavor is full of hops - carrying weed and bitterness. The fruits kinda lie flat in the flavor when measured against the nose. The malts are reserved and refreshing with just a slight hint of wood and caramel. Body is unusual IMO, medium with a fine moderated carb gives this a creamy feel. Oddly, I'd like this on nitro probably. Nice beer with a slightly divergent nose/flavor profile.
