Beautiful thick head and a cascading rise bubbles in the glass. Aroma is great, just wish it was more pronounced. Taste is great. It is so damn easy drinking for an 8% stout. Smooth, slightly creamy, good balance of roast and very slight stout acrid char. Really a good beer. Full disclosure, I was rating it a bit lower, until I remember, this is an oatmeal stout. Not an Imperial or Russian Imperial stout. With those I would expect bigger and bolder qualities but for an Oatmeal stout, youd be hard pressed to find a better one anywhere. Fantastic stout!!! (559 characters)

Poured from 12oz can into my Fremont goblet.

Appearance: totally black body with two fingers of thick, creamy tan foam which slowly subside leaving a thorough lace on the glass. Kind of hard to beat.

Smell: lightly malty and moderately roasty. Not especially complex, but very well-made. I like it.

Taste: big and roasty with a very light fruitiness up front; as the first wave of sweetness fades there's a much more ashy roastiness toward the end. I like the dynamic qualities here; very tasty indeed.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and a very nice creaminess. I really like it.

Overall: a very fine stout. I could make this a regular quaffer. (680 characters)

Pours a rich obsidian black. small brown head dissipates quickly to leave a petri dish top.

Aroma is oily: black coffee and chocolate. A little fresh and milky sweet. Simple yet enticing.

Ayup. Starts off slick and oily sweet before bitter coffee and... not quit sure what. Roasty and a bit ashy without being dry or smokey. Oily roasty chocolate and coffee and oats. Basically exactly what you want out of an oatmeal stout.
None of the individual components jump out and blow you away, but put together what you end up with is a very well composed and executed example of a style for which I am quite fond. Another winner. (626 characters)

Super dark brown body. After a hard, dunk pour, the mocha head quickly retreats to a thin, cloud cover, and skinny collar around the ring. The legging is sporadic and slick. I have had all the Fremont BA stouts and the look is similar. The smell reminds me of rich mushy oatmeal and medium roasted malts. The taste is a balanced, sweet, roasty, malt concoction. No sweetness. Splendid. The only other base stout I can think of that is better is Speedway Stout. Dark Star is a very solid, basic stout, compared to Speedway. The feel of this stout is also pretty basic, but high end. Superb finish.

Overall - This is a winner. Definitely a stout to build around. The core player on the team. (706 characters)

this really is about as good as it gets for me in the style, no barrel, no vanilla beans, no chili peppers, no need. its rich and creamy, the oats do a ton for both flavor and feel in this one, and there is a definite coffee character that i love in this, giving beautiful roasty bitterness that compliments a similar malt element. you know that instant when you are toasting sesame seeds, or cooking popcorn the old fashioned way, and you get to the point where its perfect, and you have only seconds before it all gets burnt and goes to hell? where you have to get it off the heat or its ruined? this has that moment in it, where the roast and bitter and caramel are all on point, but even a decimal more on any of these, and it would be way overdone and out of balance. its all united by the oats, and there is a really nice cohesive element, a moment really, and its excellent. espresso notes and dark chocolate in the finish, and a smoothness of feel unrivaled in the style. i can only imagine how epic the barrel aged variants are, im super keen to try them, but i have yet to see them for sale in colorado. anyone else? (1,126 characters)

22 oz bottle. Pours black with a hige creamy tan head that retains well and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is sweet fudgy chocolate malt with a little roast.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malt and some coffee with a chalky roast finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a nice amped up oatmeal stout. (333 characters)

Had on tap at Fremont, review from notes.

A: Pours a dark brown with a tan head on top, made up of small bubbles. Decent retention, leaving a thin cap on top. Sporadic lacing.

S: Nice roasted malt up front with a good bit of chocolate in the middle - dark and some milk. Faint coffee and herbal hop aromas.

T: More chocolate mixed with a bit of flaky oats, blended together very nicely. There is a bit of sweetness and cream.

M: Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation.

O: A nice imperial stout, pretty easy drinking with a nice flavor profile. (558 characters)
