Enjoyed out of a 22 oz bomber with no discernible dating, but the nice thing about hop harvest/fresh hop beers is that you have a pretty good idea of how fresh they are so long as you know the year. Poured into a 50 cL glass stein with a textured exterior.

Appearance - A brassy golden color with amber highlights, but the body is shadowed by the massive blanketing two finger head the color of creamy off-white. The retention is outstanding, with the foam eventually dissipating to a still rather generous layer of creamy froth and larger bubbles. Leaves a sticky but patchy net of lace as the beer is consumed.

Smell - Citrus complexity, with tangelo, starfruit, clementine as well as some fainter notes of mango and nectarine. It's like a fruit candle, but with none of the cloying elements that often come with scented candles. A lightly faint biscuit element gives a little counterbalance. On the back end of the aroma is a light bit of herbal characteristic, like basil and thyme.

Taste - The taste of this beer is incredibly lush and refreshing, with light grain, like water crackers to provide a vessel on which to transport the cornucopia of hop flavor. There's only one other APA that has hit me like this, with definite IPA-like characteristics while maintaining it's identity due to a gentle but firm pale malt base. Orange blossom, tangerine, and lemon zest all contribute to the lovely hop bouquet.

Mouthfeel - Light and juicy, easy to drink and smooth. Mostly dry finish with some fruitiness that hints at sweetness. Each finished drink makes me want to take the next swig.

Overall, a fantastic take on the APA style that definitely skirts that line between Pale Ale and IPA. There's another well-known (and highly popular--with good reason) beer in the same style that I won't name, but that you can probably deduct, and I would say this beer is every bit as tasty in many ways. Both are hard to get for me, but this one is easier, so I might be making an annual tradition out of buying some of these each hop harvest. I also love the fact that some of the sales go to support the Cowiche Canyon Conservancy.
