Aroma, once I got over the surprise, is intense, unrelieved hazelnut flavoring. Dark red brown in color, with a modest foam in the big chalice. Oily mouthfeel.
Flavor is a crazy surprise. I didn't read the fine print on the label. But it's totally intruguing. I don't like the artificial-tasting, sweet, cooked flavor of filberts in beer, but this is at least interesting. It still makes me think of that horrible coffee at Dunkin Donuts or where ever, not actual nuts. Where do they get this weird flavoring?
The pepper adds a nice touch. It's just so sweet. I thought chocolate syrup at first. Candied chestnuts. Count me out. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Fremont's brewery tap in Seattle.

On tap at Special Brews.
A - Served a very dark brown with only a few dark tan bubbles that are gone quickly.
S - Lots of chocolate and almonds. Very nice.
T - Silky smooth and velvety. Lots of chocolate, almond, oak, and nice roasted malts.
D - Lower carbonation and a medium-thin body.
O - A nice take on Dark Star. The hazelnuts were a nice touch.
