on-tap @ the brewery

I've had this one a number of times - glowing orange body, radiating hop elixir. I really dig how this recipe has turned out - bright citrus hops shine through, barrel provides notes of oak and mild vinous traits. IPA's are somewhat obviously much more frequently aged in white wine barrels, but this is a unique and fascinating beer of which i have very few complaints. (392 characters)

The SIster Imperial IPA aged in Merlot Barrel

A - Served a pinkish-orange with a small light tan head that quickly fades to half and moves to one side.

S - Mild merlot-wine barrel and hoppy sweetness from the ipa base.

T - Again mild, but sufficient merlot flavors, then some barrel, finally the ipa shows up with a sticky sweetness and dank hops.

D - Mild carbonation with a thin body.

O - Different, but again this one kinda worked for me. I wouldn't seek it out, but the Merlot was nice and it complimented the IPA sticky sweet hops. (586 characters)

On tap @ the UBG. Pours a somewhat hazy copper color w/ a thin head.

Aroma is resinous hops with just a hint of a floral vinous quality from the wine barrel.

Taste brings more of the merlot to the fore. Pale malt, resinous hops, and wine.

Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, a little sticky.

Overall a good DIPA with a lot going on, maybe a little too much. Still an interesting twist on the style. (394 characters)
