So a beer enthusiast employee of a local store pointed me to this. Nothing to go on, other than her recommendation and a mention of Allagash, I picked up the bottle. I had heard a time or two that Maine Brewing Company makes some good beer, so I said, why not?

Appearance: A nice golden amber hue, with a fluffy offwhite head that leaves considerable lacing

Smell: Starts off with some nice piney hops, with citrus notes in there, and some hints of the malt

Taste: Refreshingly hoppy, pine and citrus hops. Some good malts and fruityness in there too, but the hops is where this shines. Not too much bitterness

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body, good carbonation

Overall: Well, what can I say? I wasn't led astray with this. Due to price and limited nature, this will probably be the only bottle I get, but I'm very happy. Delicious. Very well balanced, not like a typical pale ale or ipa, but well done so the Belgian yeast isn't immediately obvious, it just another complementary character in this.

1 finger pure white head, with solid retention and thick lacing. Brew is a brownish-orange, very dark for a pale, and translucent.

Lovely aroma! Smells like an IPA: citrus and tropical fruit; lemon, wheat, a hint of walnut, yeast, grapefruit. Complex and delicious.

Much drier and flatter flavor than the aroma teased. Hoppy and bright; resinous. Leather, tobacco, and wheat. Dull malt aftertaste mingled with dry hops.

Refreshingly dry and sparkly; light and thin feel.

I don't know what MBC/Allagash were going for with this beer. It smells absolutely awesome, but it doesn't come across as a sweet Belgian Pale, and while hoppy, lacks the flavoring hops of an IPA. Instead it hits my palate very flatly, with little flavor to speak of.

I'm not saying it's not a beer worth trying out; it might be right up your alley. I also have no doubt that it's well-crafted and met what they had in mind; it just didn't work for me.

500 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled 10/29/2013.

Appearance - Burnt orange. Very hazy. Medium white head and a nice chunky collar. Nice lacing.

Smell - Tropical fruits. Citrus hops. A little bit of toasty malt.

Taste - Mango with some citrus hops and sweet malts. A little bit of toasty malts. Minimal bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium to medium heavy. Verging on sluggish, but well carbonated.

Overall - One-dimensional, but that dimension is really nice. Tropical fruit everywhere in this beer.

Drinking in the second week of January, bottle with a date of the end of October. Might have hurt the hoppy characters a bit. Pours with a golden orange hue, and a half finger head that settles to a thin film, that leaves decent lacing as you drink. Smell contains floral and citrus hops, with a bit of the malt character coming through. Taste is a nice balance of bittering and aroma from the hops, with the Belgian yeast give some nice peppery notes. Not a hop bomb by any means, but I think it makes it abit more drinkable because of that. Great mouthfeel helping by the finer carbonation from the bottle carbing.

Overall a very good beer that's pretty drinkable. Might have been expecting something a little more interesting from a collab of MBC, allagash and in'finti. But definitely enjoyed it.

Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a fine two finger slightly off-white head with great retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of grassy and citrus hops, bready yeast, apples; not getting any Belgian here, but that may be the nice hops talking. Flavor follows aroma, dominated by citrus and grassy hops, lightly floral; mild bready malt, grapefruit rind, orange. Now I taste the Belgian yeast influence, mostly in the pleasantly light but hoppy finish. Light to medium bodied with very nice sharp carbonation. I think this leans in the direction of a Belgian IPA, but it's too nice to argue about. Although the Belgian yeast is covered almost completely, it does add a nice lightness to the finish. Quite flavorful for a light pale ale. My first Maine Beer Company ale and I look forward to trying more

A. It has a nice wheat gold, opaque and bright. A good foamy white head and some good lacing.

S. Grassy and orange peel.

T/M. Very flavorful. There are some sweet peach notes there, it's a bit hoppy and grassy. The aftertaste is almost minty. Semi-smooth, medium bodied. Semi-carbonated. Citrusy.

O. It's so complex and flavorful. Very refreshing. Smooth and tempered in its sweetness. Very nice.

Consumed 11/14/13

Appearance: Pours a medium orange - some gold and honey tones as well - lightly hazy - somewhat large, off-white, foamy head - fades to a wispy cap, leaves some nice lacing

Smell: More or less smells like a mild American IPA with Belgian yeast - some nice citrus notes, including tangerine, orange, and some grapefruit - flesh and some pith - light hint of tropical fruits - Belgian yeast is very subtle, but it's there - some banana and pepper - overall, very floral - lightly earthy - pale, very clean malts, which seems like a signature of Maine Beer Co.

Taste: Citrus, pale malts, and some Belgian influences - tangerine and orange, mostly - flesh and a little pith - low bitterness - Belgian yeast becomes more apparent as it warms up, with banana, clove, and some peppery flavors - pale, clean malts - dough, undercooked biscuits, and some grains - floral and earthy

Mouthfeel: Light body, nicely carbonated, very smooth, nice finish

Overall: I'd happily buy another one of these for $2.013 (although it would probably be rounded)

This is a very tasty Belgian Pale Ale. It has some nice citrus and Belgian notes, but it's really nothing to write home about. It's not as exceptional as a number of other beers coming out of this brewery. And I think I paid $9 for this.
