From 11/09/13 notes. Big thanks to jslot38 for sharing this one; I like MBC and had never even heard of this one. 16.9 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

a - Pours a hazy, dark orange color with two fingers of fluffy off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of yeast, citrus hops, grapefruit, oranges, light cloves, tropical fruits, fruity malts, and mangos. Light floral and eathy notes as well. Nice nose, with a lot more hops than I was expecting.

t - Tastes of yeast, spices, bready malts, wheat, dough, and light grapefruit. Taste is good but muted; a big step down from the nose IMO.

m - Medium body and low carbonation. Smooth and creamy, very easy to drink beer. Great mouthfeel.

o - Overall a very solid beer. I thought the nose was great and a lot hoppier than I was expecting for a BPA, though the taste lost those hops. Very drinkable and good, I'd have it again, though I still prefer Lunch and maybe fresh Peeper personally.

Picked up a bottle of this at Julios. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a very nice lightly hazy golden orange hue with a wonderful three finger creamy super thick off white head that fades to leave very sticky side lacing and a wonderful dense blanket. This is an exceptional appearance.

S - Aromas POP of hops. Smells like the usual great Maine beer brew. Pine, grapefruit, tropical fruit (mango, pineapple). Not sure what makes this Belgian on the nose, but the nose is still incredible.

T - Taste is relatively muted when compared to the nose. The hops are there, nice pine and grapefruit / citrus peel, faint tropical notes. Nice bready malt qualities. Quite pleasant. As it warms there is a bit of belgian candi malts coming out along with belgian yeast. Nice balance between hops and malts here.

M - Mouthfeel is spot on here. Very nice carbonation. Super drinkable.

O - Overall a damn fine IPA here. A bit heavy on the hops which kinda of overshadow the fact that this is a belgian IPA and not an american. Regardless, it is a delicious beer which actually might be the ONLY collaboration beer I've ever enjoyed.

1 finger pure white head, with solid retention and thick lacing. Brew is a brownish-orange, very dark for a pale, and translucent.

Lovely aroma! Smells like an IPA: citrus and tropical fruit; lemon, wheat, a hint of walnut, yeast, grapefruit. Complex and delicious.

Much drier and flatter flavor than the aroma teased. Hoppy and bright; resinous. Leather, tobacco, and wheat. Dull malt aftertaste mingled with dry hops.

Refreshingly dry and sparkly; light and thin feel.

I don't know what MBC/Allagash were going for with this beer. It smells absolutely awesome, but it doesn't come across as a sweet Belgian Pale, and while hoppy, lacks the flavoring hops of an IPA. Instead it hits my palate very flatly, with little flavor to speak of.

I'm not saying it's not a beer worth trying out; it might be right up your alley. I also have no doubt that it's well-crafted and met what they had in mind; it just didn't work for me.

Poured into a Dogfish Head Spiegelau glass.

S - Quite a bit of hops, with notes of tropical/citrus fruits. Can certainly smell some bready malt.

A - Deep golden color, tints of orange. A solid 1 1/2 of foamy head. Looks delicious. Great lacing throughout the session.

T - Wow. Simply excellent. A little burst of hops at first, some tropical fruits and then a strong bready malt background to balance everything out.

M - So fricken smooth. No booziness and great carbonation. One of the smoothest beers I have had to date. Very drinkable.

O - I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this offering. I'm usually a fan of strong hop forward IPA's, but this certainly was a pleasant surprise. A great balanced beer that was certainly easy to drink. Another great brew from MBC.
