Maine Beer Company Peeper Ale poured the color of very pale straw, with a massive head. It left a glass-full of thick sticky lace. The head and lace were as good as I've ever seen, but the color was lager-like.

The smell and flavor were weak, with hints of citrus rind, pepper, amd metal. The feel had only a touch of bitterness and was mostly smooth, slippery, and very refreshing. It was very good on a hot day, but it did not have the degree of citrus or bitterness typical of very good APAs.

Peeper Ale has a striking amount of head and lace and has a summer-worthy drinkability. Overall, it's enjoyable, but "feels" more pils than pale ale.

Poured into an impy nonic a light lemony golden color with a frothy one finger white head that stuck like glue to the glass as it settled ever so slowly into a frothy mass.subdued citri hops in the nose, they are there but just a bit subdued,a light toasted grain note as well.Bright and lemony hop flavors with some herbal/grassy notes underneath, pretty dry with more of a toasted malt base.A easy drinking dryer APA with good hops, maybe didn't live up to the hype for me but still solid.

A: A pale golden beer that has a slight haze. The rocky, white head pours with a half a finger of foam that leave a slight bit of lacing on the glass.

S: A Medium-strong citrus hops aroma some of tropical fruit along with a strong grassy, dry hopped note. The herbal aroma almost dominates the citrus/tropical hops. There is a low, clean malt sweetness and a moderate floral alcohol aroma.

T: A strong tropical fruit flavor with a medium hops bitterness. There is a medium malt sweetness to support the hops the balance is somewhat bitter. There is a fair amount of fruitiness from the yeast with a touch of spice, almost like a Belgian Blonde, but not a full on Belgian beer but a strong yeast character. The finish is medium. The aftertaste is bitter and fruity.

M: A moderately creamy medium bodied beer with a moderately-strong level of carbonation. There is a light prickle on the palate but not bad.

O: A unique Pale Ale with a big citrus and tropical fruit presence and an almost equally strong spicy and fruity yeast/fermentation character. It seems like a beer that could be classified as a Belgian Pale Ale that's been made with American hops.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #39 (Apr 2010):

Professional nano-breweries could be the second coming of craft brewers, brewing beer at 1 barrel at a time with "green" thinking in mind.

Heady beginnings, the lace wants to be noticed as it clings to the glass. Shiny copper color displays the bubbles in its true beery fashion. Orange blossoms, ripe pears, shortbread and dusty yeast are in the nose. Long smoothness, a bit of creaminess in the medium body ... bottle-conditioned brews are a step above the rest when it comes to sheer mouthfeel. Orangey hoppiness dials in somewhat strong (not the bitterness, but the flavor). Malt character throws down a crisp, cracker-like flavor, which stays on the palate for a while. The hops and malt go together well, no battle ... just harmony. Finishes with some yeast but more fresh, crisp malt and orangey hop flavor.

Impressive small-batch ale to be had; by far one of the most interesting Pale Ales out there. Different in that the complexities ask the taste buds to work hard, but the beer manages to stay quaffable at the same time.

A visually perfect beer. In an imperial pint glass it was a hazy straw color, nicely carbonated, with a thick white head. The head showed good persistance, and left a wall of lace down the side of the glass while I drank. It had a sweet floral aroma. Mostly a pine taste, maybe a little citrus, and peppery. A wonderful beer, very drinkable.

Enjoyed on tap at Hopleaf in Chicago.
Poured into a pint glass, it's a somewhat hazy gold with a single finger of foam and lots of lacing as I drink it.
Great aroma with plenty of floral and grass and a hint of citrus.
Man, this tastes amazing! All kinds of flavors going on. Sweet citrus, pineapple, grass, some cracker sweetness and a pleasant, mild, lingering bitter.
This is a VERY smooth beer. It almost felt creamy on my palate.
Overall, just excellent. Great beer.

Yeah, I get the whole Maine Beer Company deal - tiny, eco-friendly, artisan, blah blah blah. But at over $6 per 500 ml, this better knock my socks off.

It didn't.

Pours and looks nice, but the head disappears quckly. Small island of foam is all that remains after a minute. Smells like flowers, hint of lemon.

Soapy, herbal taste. I didn't like the mouthfeel, i wanted to drink it and be over with the sip. Subtly bitter in a bad way. A bit of the same lemon in the after-taste.

This is a disappointing beer. I gave the 2nd half of this beer to my wife - she didn't care for it either.

Had at the GLB.

The beer is straw yellow with a cloudyness. The head is plentiful with very nice lace

The nose is sweet with a fresh hop profile. The hops are a slight citrus with earthy hint . Very nice

The taste is not a letdown. A soft carbontion reveals a fresh fresh hop flavor not bitter and not overwhelming perfect.. the malt is present but never to much. Very nice.

Poured from bottle to snifter.

A - pours a hazy golden-yellow with 1.5fingers of bubbly head. Good retention with lots of lacing.

S - Smells very fresh and hoppy with floral, pine and citrus notes.

T - definitely less hoppy than the smell indicates. Hints of lemon with a Strong yet dry finish.

M - Medium body with medium/high carbonation. Light overall feel and leaves a dry lemon taste for several seconds after.

O - a solid APA from a promising brewery. Very balanced and refreshing. Not my favorite from this style but a great beer nonetheless.

16 ounce bottle.

The head on this beer is off the chain! A solid wall of off white foam stays at the 4 finger level forever. Stays rocky, super slow morph to stiff merainge (I cant seem to spell that work for the life of me) Also leaves super thick sheeting and thick high lace blobs. Outstanding achievent in head and who amoung does not like....blah blah blah..

Bright nose of lemon, soap, flowers and a hint of ginger.

Quite tasty ale. More lemony hops, some peppery spice, quite dry in the mouth. Bright and flavorful, highly enjoyable and well worth seeking out. A very pleasant suprise from a brewery I did not know much about...I want to learn more and drink more of their brews
