Thanks to muttyd for this nice extra.

A- Pours a very light golden, bordering on BMC territory. There is a nice fluffy head, about two fingers, that sticks around for a while and leaves some great lacing on the side of the glass.

S- A good citrus hop burst for a pale ale. A little bit of malt in there as well with some grassy undertones. Picking up a little bit of onion from the variety of hops used.

T- Very subtle hops and a more prominent malt base. Again, the grassy undertone is there but gives it a nice touch. There are also some hints of lemon that round this one out.

M- Lighter bodied with a nice, crisp carbonation. Very smooth feeling and make this one a winner on a warm day.

O- The flavors are very subtle but work well with the lighter body. I could see putting a few back on a nice summer day and not get tired of it. I am glad I was able to give this a try.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 6/7/14

A slight haze in a golden yellow body, large and loose 3 fingers of foam has decent retention and leaves some spiderweb lace deep down the glass

S lots of citrus, tangerine, sweet orange, and grapefruit, floral hops are strong, faint pineapple, spruce, just a little dry cereal in the background but for the most part its a complete hop runaway

T spicy hops I didn't pick up on the nose, some lemon rind and a little caramel, a little surprised as it doesn't mimic the nose all that well but still tastes great

M lighter side of medium, bubbles soften it up, a mild bitter bite, a little grit on the gums, spicy rind lingers

O its a great pale ale that's hopped right up, my bottles already gone at this point, super drinkable sinks like a ship

Yet another winner from Maine, its been a while since I've tried this many beers from a brewery and all of them have been great, I hope we get some new ones to try in the near future

Enjoyed out of a 16.9 oz brown bottle with a date of 05/27/14 marked on the side of the label. Poured into a Free State Brewing can-shaped glass.

Appearance - Pours a rich golden hue with amber highlights that is mostly translucent, with just a bit of haze from the bottle conditioning. Atop the body sits a rocky three finger off-white head that retains for a few minutes before dissipating somewhat, but never fully going away, settling as a nice finger of frothy foam and leaving swaths of sticky white lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell - A very pungent burst of grapefruit and citrus alongside a pleasant light grainy foundation that reminds me of water crackers. Grapefruit pith, lemon zest and even some faint grassiness all contribute to make this one a pretty hop-forward take on an APA from an aroma standpoint.

Taste - Picks up right where the aroma left off, with grapefruit rind, citrus, limoncello and herbal notes like dandelion greens and fresh cut grass. Here there is even a bit of floral aspect to the taste, almost like orange blossom. The grains again make an appearance, but the malt characteristic is light and unassuming, a virtual cracker for the citrusy hoppy toppings (hoppings?).

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and moderate carbonation, with a bright and crisp feel and a dry finish on the palate.

Overall, just a stellar APA. I know it's not as reputed as some other hop-forward takes on the style, or even other beers in the same style category from this very brewery, but it is certainly just as worthy of being highly regarded, both for its style and as a standalone beer. I would gladly drink this again and again, especially during the ho t summer months.
