Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: Dark amber color where the body is somewhat transparent but still looks a pinch cloudy with an off-white head with a slight orange tint to it.

Smell: Nice potent hoppy scent that you feel as you're pouring this brew into the glass.

Taste: A very complex taste...you feel the strong hit of hops. Has a sweet citrus feel to it that feels a bit like pink grapefruit. Very very bitter, you don't need to know how many IBUs this beer is to know what you got yourself into. Delish.

Mouth: Medium to heavy body....ridiculously sticky, just a little bit dry.

Overall: I bought this on being random and feeling to try something different. I never heard of this beer till actually reviewing it. Though not advertised as an IPA, it is! Has every property you could ask for and for you hop heads this one is addicting so don't say i didn't warn you. Salud!

A: Reddish brown in color. When moved into the light, it has more of a resemblance to a hazy copper. Two plus fingers of tan head that hold strong with their retention. Once faded, it leaves a Swiss cheese-like lacing.

S: Big, juicy fruit scents of grapefruit, pineapple, and mango. A healthy portion of pine in there to make this super appealing.

T: Very piney and earthy. Fruit that was in the nose is a little more subtle than the it would've implied, but not to a fault. Overall maltiness seems just right. The layering of flavors is great.

M: Medium body and medium carb. Pretty clean and refreshing for 7% above brew.

O: Incredible. if only more ambers were as well put together as this one. Ambers have always been tough for me because I find they are either too hoppy, not hoppy enough, or too malty. Zoe strikes the balance.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 13/4/14

A murky looking root beer with sediment and tiny pieces of yeast and enough clarity to see bubbles going up the side, three fingers of dark tan head slowly falls leaving rings deep down the glass I can easily count 8 and that's something you don't see everyday, still a little foam at the bottom

S grapefruit, lemon, manderine orange, spruce, leafy earthy notes, Iced tea powder, brown sugar, caramel, and faint coco, well balanced with a fair bit going on from both the malt and hops

T slightly more malty notes in the mouth, dark bread, lots of burnt brown sugar, still has plenty of citrus and earthy notes, tastes great but the nose has something extra working for it

M leaning towards full, not as much carbonation as you would guess from the massive well retained foam but still creams up a little, not quite sticky on the lips, leafy citrus lingers

O another winner from Maine, well balanced and has plenty going on, didn't take much time to drink the bottle, just a couple sips left at this point

I've had 4 beers from Maine and all have been great, its been a while since I've been this impressed by my first crack at a brewery. Find their beers and drink them, and send me a bottle of Lunch!!

My first ever Maine Beer Co. brew. It was simply amazing.

The head/lacing is incredibe and frothy. It lingers through the entire experience and that is something I really tend to notice that the best beers all have in common.

A - Deep brown/rosey red. Huge sappy, bubbly, head and thick leg lacing.

S - less than noticable. Malty with a sweet hop aroma.

T - Deep caramel malt with earthy floral hop backings. A bit of smoke/bold roasted grain.

M - medium bodied and evenly distributed flavor layers throughout.

O - very very good. This is one you need to SEE & try. The descriptions won't do it justice.

500ml bottle - I'm just a little surprised that there isn't an umlaut over the 'e' in this beer's name - seems to be the current hipster trend, no?

This beer pours a murky, dark red brick amber hue, with a fistful of puffy, tightly foamy, and pleasantly bubbly beige head, which leaves some random sudsy, broken chainlink lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of biscuity, bready caramel malt, resinous pine and leafy hops, bittersweet dark fruit - of the fig, cherry and raisin variety - a touch of gritty dark chocolate, and further grapefruit, orange, and lemon citrus notes. The taste is big on the hefty pine resin, edgy leafy, and muddled citrus pith hop bitterness up front, followed gamely by a sturdy bready, biscuity, and well caramelized malt, one aided and abetted by some middling cocoa powder, and a soft nutty coffee essence. Very little is discernible about the apparently near 15-proof booze factor.

The carbonation is pretty tight, not really showing its cards whatsoever, the body a surprising medium-light weight, and plainly smooth, not much else going on here. It finishes much drier than I might have expected, the caramel maltiness turning tail, in the face of that lingering citrus, pine, and bitter leafy hoppiness.

A well-made American amber ale - the hops are certainly not to be trifled with, but that doesn't mean that the malt is given short shrift - in fact, a fair amount of love is doted on the biscuit, bread, and caramel notes, almost, as already stated, through the end. Anyways, a tasty, somewhat beguiling, and drinkable despite the ABV, hoppy amber brew - I want to, but I'm just not gonna add a smiley face to seal this one off.
