Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

Enjoyed out of a brown 500 mL bottle with that classic Maine Beer Co. labeling that somehow manages to be unique and nondescript all at the same time. Marked with a bottling date of 4/15/14, so this one is only about 20 days away from the recommended 90 day 'drink by' period. Poured into a 50 cL glass stein with a textured exterior.

Appearance - Poured with standard vigor, which yields a healthy two finger cream colored head. Retention is excellent, and as it recedes, it leaves heavy sheets of lacing along the sides of the glass. As I drink it down, those sheets continue, showing rings where the level of the liquid stopped between swallows. The color of the body is a deep mahogany red with chestnut low lights. Through the thicker glass of the stein, it almost looks straight brown until I hold it up to the light, at which point the beautiful hue is revealed.

Smell - A pretty nice blend of the aroma profiles you'd expect from an amber--caramel malt, toasted bread and faint pine--alongside a fruitier burst of citrus from the amped up hopping. The fruit isn't overpowering enough to kick this out of the style category, but it does make for a more interesting smell.

Taste - As with the aroma, this is pretty classic amber ale, with a nice healthy malt profile with grain sweetness and subtle caramel flavors as well as a slightly bitter finish from the toasted malts. There is also a complementary presence of the citrus and pine that kick this one up to another level and make it more unique than most amber ales.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied and moderate carbonation, with a slightly juicy feel on the tongue that makes it very easy to drink.

Overall, just a fantastic beer. It's not the first "hoppy red" I've had, but it might be the best. It manages to kick up the standard amber ale flavor profiles without going so far that it turns it basically into an IPA. This one is still firmly in the American Amber category, but with an added level of interest.

Brewed on 9-29-2012.Poured into an imperial nonic a deep amber with a large fluffy off white head that left multiple broken rings of lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Big floral and piney hops really jump out at ya along with sweet biscuit and brown sugar, the malt base is almost as big as the hop onslaught,a great nose.Sticky piney hops really stand out on the palate up front but a big brown sugar and biscuit malt base is there again to stand up to the hops,I get a little earthiness to round out everything in the finish. This is a complex flavor packed red,to me it's like an old school left coast hopped up red, great stuff.

This was the second beer I've had from Maine Beer Company, and I have been very impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed Spring Peeper, but this one was even better. In an imperial pint glass the beer was a dark red/brown color with a huge tan head that resembled whipped cream. A nice amount of lace. A really sweet floral aroma, very outdoorsy, and a bit of citrus. Strong pine taste, as well as a little grapefruit. Some malt presence too, making this a very well-balanced beer. You need to find this and try it.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip.
Pours a very dark amber color with a creamy. light tan head that left lacing all down the glass.
The aroma is citrus and candied fruit and a hint of caramel. Very nice.
This beer is a taste experience. Lots of tropical fruit up front , then some caramel and biscuit and then that piney, hoppy finish that leaves a bitter dryness on the tongue.
Medium-smooth on the mouthfeel.
Overall, this is a lovely blend of malty and hoppy and somehow manages to be both things at the same time. Wish I could have another right now!

Beautiful dark amber thick thick head with pleanty of lace

Beautiful hop aroma eathy piny. Wonderful very fresh

Nice very nice start with a slight caremel malt and quickly becomes hoppy and finishes all hops. The bitter becomes prominant but isn't offensive a well rounded hop taste very nice
