American Amber / Red Ale |  7.20% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

This beer pours very dark for a red ale with a deep dark brown amber color, reminiscent of a more earthy red wine an brown sugar, and with a huge lightly maple syrup-drizzled head that lasts forever and leaves a nice sticky spatterwork of lacing on the side of the glass.
The beer smells thick with some great resiny pine hops and fruity grapefruit mango. There is also a light underlying mingle of sweet biscuit and caramel malts along with a ghost of chocolate.
The beer tastes fantastically balanced for a hop-forward red. The pine hops are definitely the big thing here, and leave a lovely pine taste in the mouth with hints of mango, nectarine, and grapefruit. This beer also delivers a lovely bit of caramel malts that put a nice sweet body to the bitter pine and balance the beer tremendously. The clash of the hops and the malt seems to make a slightly roasted taste that could be in the malt or just could be from the collision of flavors. Mouthfeel is cool and slightly jellying, yet very smooth and clean on the tongue, only leaving a light cloying pine hop linger and lots of clean saliva lining the mouth. There is a slight tingle of carbonation which is definitely present in the beer, but it is not harsh at all.
Overall this is a supremely great red ale that I am very excited to live near. I still need to try Troëg’s Nugget Nectar, but as of now this is the best red I have tasted! I can guarantee I will be trying Peeper Ale (their summer seasonal) within the week!

Brewed on 9-29-2012.Poured into an imperial nonic a deep amber with a large fluffy off white head that left multiple broken rings of lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Big floral and piney hops really jump out at ya along with sweet biscuit and brown sugar, the malt base is almost as big as the hop onslaught,a great nose.Sticky piney hops really stand out on the palate up front but a big brown sugar and biscuit malt base is there again to stand up to the hops,I get a little earthiness to round out everything in the finish. This is a complex flavor packed red,to me it's like an old school left coast hopped up red, great stuff.

This was the second beer I've had from Maine Beer Company, and I have been very impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed Spring Peeper, but this one was even better. In an imperial pint glass the beer was a dark red/brown color with a huge tan head that resembled whipped cream. A nice amount of lace. A really sweet floral aroma, very outdoorsy, and a bit of citrus. Strong pine taste, as well as a little grapefruit. Some malt presence too, making this a very well-balanced beer. You need to find this and try it.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip.
Pours a very dark amber color with a creamy. light tan head that left lacing all down the glass.
The aroma is citrus and candied fruit and a hint of caramel. Very nice.
This beer is a taste experience. Lots of tropical fruit up front , then some caramel and biscuit and then that piney, hoppy finish that leaves a bitter dryness on the tongue.
Medium-smooth on the mouthfeel.
Overall, this is a lovely blend of malty and hoppy and somehow manages to be both things at the same time. Wish I could have another right now!

Beautiful dark amber thick thick head with pleanty of lace

Beautiful hop aroma eathy piny. Wonderful very fresh

Nice very nice start with a slight caremel malt and quickly becomes hoppy and finishes all hops. The bitter becomes prominant but isn't offensive a well rounded hop taste very nice
