Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

Pours a nice dark amber with a dense, creamy beige/eggshell colored head. Great hoppy and malty blended aroma - big sweet grapefruit, resin, sticky pine with some cocoa powder, cereal grain, and caramel. Very vibrant fresh taste - hop bitterness and darker maltiness blend well.

Another fantastic beer from MBC.

Pours brown in color, slightly hazy and deep red hues. Head is thin about half a finger off-white almost pink. Head also retains nicely and leaves a fair amount of lacing.

Smells very nicely balanced. Grainy husky malt aromas work nicely with aromas of sweet maple and mildly nutty malt. Malt plays nicely with fresh lightly fruitier hops that have aromas of mango Papaya and hints of grapefruit.

Taste is great. Malt is forward and has some light grainy and toffee flavors before a slight fruity and predominately piney hoppy mild bitterness persists through the midsection. Light floral notes finish on the exhale.

Mouthfeel is good. Moderate to high carbonation is cut by a good amount of hop oils and resin and malty stickiness. Nice balance keeps this highly drinkable with a good body.

500mL bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a very dark yet cloudy copper color. There's about one fingers worth of off-white colored head, and it's beautifully textured. It retains itself acceptably, as well.

S: It's about what I expected from an amber, no more, no less. Which is disappointing, considered I expected this to be a big step up from the Fat Tires of the world. There is a strong caramel note from the malt backbone, along with lesser notes of toffee and earth. The hops here are primarily piny and serve to balance the malt. It is a decent aroma...but wow, I really expected this to be great.

T: Malts hit the tongue immediately, with a ton of toffee and caramel. This backbone gradually fades to allow some of its hop flavor to shine: mostly pine, with just a hint of grapefruit and herbs. While the flavor profile is sadly average, it does seem to have a touch of depth - like suggestions of chocolate or brown sugar, for instance.

M: The mouthfeel is what sets it apart from the gaggle of mediocre ambers out there. It is superbly clean and crisp, which that makes this one really drinkable. Carbonation is nice and zesty, too. The lingering sweetness on the palate is kept to a minimum.

O: Disappointing, apart from the great mouthfeel. It's definitely not a bad beer at all, though - and it grows on me the more I drink it. Still, this kind of money for a 500mL bottle of beer that's only slightly above average kind of hurts. And I really hoped this would be nearly as fantastic as Nugget Nectar, too...

500 ml bottle. Pours hazy-amber with long lasting off-white head. Aroma is of citrusy hops, orange marmalade, caramel and bready malt. Body is full and tangy. Citrusy hops dominate the palate while orange fruit, caramel and biscuit malt provide some balance. Finish is long, grapefruity. Amazingly delicious brew.

500mL bottle; born on 100813
A - gargantuan beige head tops a deep red-amber ale, incredible head retention with chunky lacing
S - nice blend of caramel and piny hops with hints of grapefruit and bready malts
T - bitter and complex with caramel, burnt sugar, grapefruit, juicy, piny hops, toasted grain, bread crust - rye bread perhaps
M - thinner side of medium for body, resinous and drying on the palate with a bitter lingering finish
O - really liked this one, but at its price point I will not buy it again.
