Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

Poured from a bottle bought at the Maine Beer Company brewery store on "Blizzard Day" 2013.

This beer has great head retention, the foam just sticks around for ages (perhaps a wee bit of wheat in there?). The beer itself is a deep mahogany amber color; the redness really only becomes apparent when the beer is held right up to a light, its just so dark.

The nose on this is a little odd. Initially, the hops hit your nose, and they strike me as lightly grapefruity. To be honest, the hops here seem similar to MBD's "Lunch" DIPA but much definitely secondary to the malt backbone. The nose here is hops first, but then quickly fading to a smoky malt. Too be honest, I was quite suprised at just how smoky the nose on this beer is, its a rather interesting take on the american amber style.

The taste on this is fairly subdued. No strong hoppy bitterness, not much residual sweetness, overall, a very balanced beer. Very malt-forward, not bitter, but a great balance between the hops and malt character.

This is perhaps the best mouthfeel that I have ever had on a beer before. This beer truly fills the entire palate and brings flavor to every corner of your mouth. Just great.

This is a very, very, solid American Amber. It is a little malty for my taste, but a very hefty and interesting beer. This is certianly an excellent representation of the more extreme ABV end of the style and a worthwhile pickup for anyone. Not my favorite MBC offering (total peeper, lunch, and mo fan here) but really good stuff.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Color was a darker reddish amber, almost a medium brown. Head was a creamy dirty white that was fairly thick, and stuck remarkably well. Aroma was a strong hoppy pine upfront. Over time developed an underlying bit of brown sugar sweetness. Flavor was hoppy bitter, but was also a bit of a peppery spice balance that helped to smooth it out. Coated very well, just the right amount of stick in the mouth, with a hint of carbonation. Had a fair amount of chew and body. Overall, a well balanced beer. Perhaps a bit on the hoppier side for the style, but not in a bad way.

Consumed 2 weeks after born on date.

16 oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter. Bottled on 11/4/12.

Pours a cloudy deep reddish almost brown. Very nice off white head, billowy with some tight bubbles. Good retention and decent lace.

Pine sap, pine needles, woody hops, bit of biscuity malt to balance.

A nice even taste.pine hops rule. Resinous, pine sap, a bit of grapefruit citrus. Some deep caramel biscuit malts make an attempt at balancing. Finishes witha pretty sturdy lingering hop bitterness.

Drinks very smooth, medium bodied. A touch aof sweetness compliments the hops nicely.

A very enjoyable beer. Exactly what it claims to be, a happy, hoppy amber!
