Our American-style stout aged on organic vanilla beans. Intense notes of coffee and dark chocolate lead way to subtle notes of natural vanilla. Flaked oats generate a silky mouthfeel.

Bottled on March 18, 2013.

A - inky black with a khaki head, about 1.5 inches or so. Leaves some thin lacing.

S - roasty malt, dark chocolate, some vanilla.

T - follows the nose almost exactly. Dark chocolate, some coffee/roasty flavors. The vanilla is pretty thin, but acts to smooth things out very nicely.

M - low carb, thick and creamy mouthfeel.

O - this is a really tasty beer and, as with other Maine Beer Co beers, the quality craftsmanship shows through. My initial reaction was that I wanted more vanilla, but I think the vanilla (even if a little light) plays a nice role in the beer, smoothing out the flavor profile. Rather than playing a standout role, the vanilla connects everything.

I think the rating suffer from people looking at this to fit a double/imperial stout profile. It's not a double, people.

Excellent stout, heavy vanilla smell though the vanilla takes a backseat in a way taste wise. I got more coffee than vanilla. Still, a great beer and worth seeking out.

Pours nearly jet black except for a tinge of ruby when held right up to the light,a creamy beige head atop that left a broken ring of lace behind.Vanilla and more vanilla in the nose, some dark roast comes into play as well as some chocolate but the vanilla wins out. It's roasted on the palate but I love the vanilla warming flavors,it's not overly sweet with a nice somewhat drying earthy finish. This beer is underrated in my opinion,it's warming with a nice vanilla flavor that isn't overly done,a great beer.

from notes, on draft at the Boynton, Worcester, MA
look; served in a shaker filled to the brim, 1/4" head, good retention, plenty of lacing, as dark a chestnut as can be without being black, or black with a hint of chestnut
smell; vanilla, roasted malt, some bitter coffee and sweet chocolate notes
taste; roasted malt, vanilla, some hops bitterness, coffee grounds, hint of brown sugar
feel; full bodied but on the lighter side of full bodied; some carbonation, not creamy, just a hint of syrupy feel in the middle, finishes with a nice mildly bitter bite
overall; a nice full flavored vanilla porter with enough going on to keep me interested but pretty straightforward for maine beer co. Tom's not so mean

Batch #1
500ml bottle poured into a mug.
This beer was a very dark brown, nearly black color. A hint of red when held up to a light.
Medium-sized tan head and a little bit of lace.
Strong roasted malt aroma up front, followed by some sweet chocolate. A little bit of vanilla tucked in there.
Tasted like espresso with a shot of chocolate. I think I lost the vanilla.
A bit on the thin side.
Nice enough.

Purchased on recent trip to PHL. 056312 G stamped on side of label I think- the "6" is smudged. Could be a 0 or 8.
Poured murkey yeasty brown into my Deschutes tulip. Minimal head very thin layer of small bubbles cling to edge. Nothing much else.
Aroma very pleasant. Smooth softness of vanilla foretells the taste which is again smooth, velvety, full of vanilla notes.
Warm nice feeling lingers.
A very enjoyable stout. Too bad I brought back only one.

The head is very full forms more then 2 finger very thick and tan. The beer is dark and only on the pour could you see the dark amber color. The head hugs the glass very nice one of the best heads I've seen in a bottle

Big nose on this beer it whafted to my nose while I was pouring it. There is a lot of aromas coffee with roasted malts and a mellow vanilla that works perfect together

To start this is a dry stout not an imperial or big stout wit that said this is a great beer. The beer starts slightly sweet. A roasted nutty flavor enters. The nutty coffee taste is very pleasent. A slight hop enters with a very hint of vanilla in the aftertaste. Its a big dry finish.

For a stout this great I'm astonished how they were able to have the taste and aroma differ but have it go together

Pours a nice opaque black with some tan head and a nice medium collar. Good lacing out of this one. Aroma is really deep roasted malt, some faint coffee, and earthy too. Taste is where the vanilla comes out. Vanilla up front, char and roasted malt in the middle, then fades into a sweet dark caramel. Nice thick body and low carbonation. Very good but the whole time I felt there was just something off-putting.

Typical MBC mid sized bottle

Pours very dark, looks like a stout should. Dark mocha head, leaves a very fine bubble film, respectable lacing and thicker collar.

Dark malts and the advertized vanilla on the nose.

Super smooth in the mouth and super tasty on the palate. More vanilla, mellow dark malts. Quite tasty, a very nice treat
