Our American-style stout aged on organic vanilla beans. Intense notes of coffee and dark chocolate lead way to subtle notes of natural vanilla. Flaked oats generate a silky mouthfeel.

A: Pours a medium bodied deep brown color with a nice one finger khaki colored head. Leaves some light tracks of lace down the glass.

S: Pretty subtle. I really had to work to get much out of this one, but I get some light roasted malt, dark roasted coffee, powdery cocoa, brownie, oats, a hint of char and some light vanilla. As it warms, I get some cocoa puffs and a sweeter, light coffee smell.

T: Opens on a nice coffee and roasted malt note. There's just a hint of acidity to the coffee but it's never so strong that it becomes unpleasant. Vanilla, burnt brownies, milk chocolate and some charred wood intermingle fantastically in the middle. Finish brings some light cola, smoke and dark chocolate. Nothing about this beer feels forced. The vanilla is very subtle, but adds a lot of depth to the flavor profile. Not the craziest stout out there, but this is a keeper.

Born on 4/9/13, enjoyed on 6/10/13.

A - Black as motor oil with a two-finger, thick, coffee-colored head. A great looking stout!

S - Sweet, roasted malts with a touch of vanilla.

T - Roasted malts are up front; coffee and dark/bitter sweet chocolate are there as well. The vanilla beans add just a touch of sweetness. The aftertaste is primarily roasted malts and dark chocolate.

M - Thick and creamy, just like a stout should be.

O - This is a solid, well-balanced stout. This beer isn't charting new territory but it succeeds in being a great stout where many others fall short. Appreciate it for what is: a stout, no barrel-aging, no crazy flavors. This is definitely a go-to stout when I want a classic example of the style. Well done, Maine Beer Company.

Appearance: Opaque, dark chocolate, delightful two/three finger foamy chocolate head. Lacing seems to last forever.

Smell: Coffee, cocoa, nutty, a hint of vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Slightly heavy carbonation, creamy finish

Taste: Starts with almost a burnt espresso, bitter, finishes with a lighter, creamy coffee taste and a hint of vanilla.

Overall: Thick, robust, slightly bitter dessert-y brew, pairs great with tiramisu. Would definitely recommend.

Pours a deep black, not thick, but still a good pour with a nice semi-white cream. The aroma was very attractive. No question about the vanilla in this one... I could not detect any of the coffee or chocolate... However, at the first taste, there was no question that there was coffee.

This was a semi-big stout, very smooth with a lingering aftertaste.

This seems to be the trend with the Maine beers I have tasted.. All are very clean, soft
with excellent aftertaste.... Lingering
