Notes/Commercial Description:
Our American-style stout aged on organic vanilla beans. Intense notes of coffee and dark chocolate lead way to subtle notes of natural vanilla. Flaked oats generate a silky mouthfeel.

1 pt .9 fl. oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottled on 11/13. Consumed on 11/28.

A - Brown approaching black in color. On the first pour, as I typically do, I gave it a less gentle pour to see the head, and it yielded 3+ fingers of head. Second pour, I gave it a very gentle pour and still got a full finger of head. Head is a light tan dense foam. Head dissipated some, but never got less than a 1/2 finger. Maintained its shape as the liquid moved. Reminded me of the "head" on a root beer float. Left heavy lacing on sides of glass.

S - Rather fragrant. Roasted malts and vanilla.

T - Very interesting. Vanilla does not stand out until beer is almost room temperature. Get a tartness than combined with the carbonation feels and tastes much like a cola. Also some cocoa powder with a bitter roasted coffee finish. When warm though, the vanilla really comes out.

M - Moderate to high carbonation with a medium body.

O - A solid option. Very different than most stouts I have tried. Give it a try.

On draft at Tap and Barrel, Smithtown, NY.

Poured a deep brown hue with a two finger frothy tan head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured clean roasted malts and a touch of lactose.

The taste was likewise roasty with a bit of milk sugar, some vanilla and a charcoal finish.

The mouthfeel was toward the drier side of the style.

Overall a very tasty American stout.

Poured into a nonic pint glass.

A - Pours a deep black color with a nice thick light brown head.

S - Smells a lot like breakfast/dessert. Picking up on hints of coffee, toffee, chocolate and some vanilla.

T - A burst of flavors. Tons of coffee beans, chocolate. On the background I am picking up on hints of toffee and vanilla beans which adds a nice bitterness.

M - Almost feels like drinking a soda. Good carbonation, while being very easy to drink. The flavors really stick to the inside of the mouth.

O - I am not a stout drinker, but I decided to give this one a shot, having luck with all of the other MBC beers. Overall, this was an excellent brew. Very drinkable and tons of flavors. Definitely was very enjoyable on a cold VT night.

500 ml bottle (1 pint 0.9 fl oz.) with bottled on date 10/29/2013 printed on the label. My first beer from Maine Beer Company, I just started seeing these beers in my area recently. Exponentially stoked to finally have this bottle, very nice minimalist label art.

Poured into an over-sized wine glass.

A - Pours a very dark cola brown; opaque black in the glass. Three big fingers of fluffy creamy mocha head. Beautiful ribbons of lace on the glass. Looks very nice.

S - Smell is very nice: cold coffee bean roast, chocolate, some earth, some metallics, faint leather, hints of cream / lactose, and soft creamy vanilla bean.

T - More forward on the coffee bean aspect than the vanilla, but both are apparent. Bitter coffee bean roast, powdery chocolate, and delicate vanilla bean.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy with a bitter, drying finish, beckoning the palate for another sip. Dark coffee bean roast lingers.

Overall, a very nicely done stout from the Maine Beer Company. I would love to see this beer in six packs, because I would drink this stuff year-round if it was more widely available than it is. A very nice first beer for me from these guys, and I look forward to many more!

Another fantastic offering from Maine Beer Co. So glad I have access to these now.

This is a really well balanced and crafted stout - nothing over the top at all, just very in tune with itself. Fresh coffee beans, some decent amount of roast, bitter dark chocolate and the addition of the vanilla beans yields a mocha, milk chocolate sweetness. Aroma is not very big but there are some very nice things going on - vanilla sweetness, coffee roast - cold pressed coffee -, and really fine dark chocolate shavings. Creamy mouthfeel - soft but fizzy carbonation.

Right up there with Titus, MO, and Peeper. Great stuff.
