Notes/Commercial Description:
Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

Bottle dated 012412

1.9 oz. bottle poured into a Duvel Tulip Style Glass. Liquid portion comes out a nice brown/golden/orange color, sort of a light hazy natural honey color. It’s very hazy and glows when you hold it up to the light. Only a moderate pour produces a crazy thick foamy colored head. The bubbles are very small, but get bigger as it sits there. Really good amounts of lacing to it.

Smell is very subtle and sweet, but very nice. Pretty citrusy, grapefruit and lemon zest. Citrus is the main profile here, but behind that there are some nice pine notes as well. In addition there are some nice floral and very slight herbal aromas as well. Sweetness present so nicely accompanied by the malts.

Taste is as equally as excellent. Bitterness to sweetness ratio is good from the hops and malts. Initially it starts a little weak, but it’s all just an illusion. After a nice sip, the flavor all really lingers the whole way through. Starts of with plenty of citrus: tangerine, grapefruit, and a little more lemon zest to finish off the citrus flavors. Slight sweetness, natural sugary syrup and pine. Really nice flavors all together, I wouldn’t say it was all that it’s worth the hype except how well the flavor lingers, makes it all the better.

Great carbonation level and smooth. Medium bodied beer. It starts off nice and sweet with a nice, clean and dry bitter finish. Reasonably complex throughout and it the flavor lingers. Overall a really nice beer, lingering flavor is the best part.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #55 (August 2011):

Slow pour still produces a sizable head; dull amber glow sans sediment. Fresh clementines, nectarines, strawberry taffy, toasted bread, nutty yeast and fresh-cut grass in the nose. Rustic, smooth yet bitty mouthfeel—a beer of sub- stance. Tame bitterness, though the flavor flogs the taste buds for a while. Nice hop bite with citric and herbal flavors, and some spice in the middle as the dry maltiness tries to rise above. Apple and pear fruitiness, warming alcohol and graininess try to stave off the hop flavor, but it just keeps pushing along. Pretty amazing brew, bringing back some clout for the true East Coast IPAs.

Lot 051811 on the label.
A slightly hazy amber color with a voluminous white head, even with a careful pour. Lots of sticky lace.
Citrus and tropical fruit aroma. Good sweet malt background.
Tropical fruit taste, very sweet. Grapefruit leading to a little bit of piney hops that I hadn't detected in the aroma. Bread.
This was a very well-balanced IPA. Will pick up more of these.

Had at the Sebago end of an era special event. Shared it with my wife and bumped elbows with pretty much every major player in the Maine beer scene.

The color is golden straw slight cloudy with a generous head.

The aroma is is fruity hops very very fresh. Wonderful.

The taste well what can I say its probably the best IPA I've ever had. The taste is all hops but never overwhelming. The flavor starts sweet becomes a citrus hop flavor and ends with a slight bitter of hops flavor. Wonderful.
