Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

Bottle poured into stone pint glass.

Had this many times, now its time for a review.

A: Hazy orange, almost straw-like. Decent head that fades into a nice lacing around the edges. The lacing from the initial pour are still at the top of the glass.

S: Big hops. Citrus and grapefruit aromas dominate the nose. Slight malts on the back end. Hard to tell with such a big hop profile.

T: Wow. Aggressive citrus, grapefruit and a perfect kick of pine attack the palate. Definitely some caramel malts at the end. Hop flavors linger long after the sip.

M: Bitter all the way through. Medium bodied. Easy drinkin'.

O: Very nice brew from Maine Brewing Co. Absolutely love this IPA and I would come back to this more often if the bottles were 22 oz. The price isn't so bad in New England but once you get to NY the price escalates like crazy. That being said, an absolute must try for hop heads.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #55 (August 2011):

Slow pour still produces a sizable head; dull amber glow sans sediment. Fresh clementines, nectarines, strawberry taffy, toasted bread, nutty yeast and fresh-cut grass in the nose. Rustic, smooth yet bitty mouthfeel—a beer of sub- stance. Tame bitterness, though the flavor flogs the taste buds for a while. Nice hop bite with citric and herbal flavors, and some spice in the middle as the dry maltiness tries to rise above. Apple and pear fruitiness, warming alcohol and graininess try to stave off the hop flavor, but it just keeps pushing along. Pretty amazing brew, bringing back some clout for the true East Coast IPAs.

Lot 051811 on the label.
A slightly hazy amber color with a voluminous white head, even with a careful pour. Lots of sticky lace.
Citrus and tropical fruit aroma. Good sweet malt background.
Tropical fruit taste, very sweet. Grapefruit leading to a little bit of piney hops that I hadn't detected in the aroma. Bread.
This was a very well-balanced IPA. Will pick up more of these.
