Notes/Commercial Description:
Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

A: Top notch. Huge fluffy white head atop a golden amber pour. A little hazy, not perfectly clear. Amazing retention and great lacing.

S: Stunning aroma. Grapefruit and orange at the forefront with some pine and the bready malt not far behind. Maybe some apricot or peach in there too?

T: Taste backs up the smell. Lots of grapefruit and orange, very strong (but not overpowering) bready malts. Pine is secondary but still there. Maybe even a little herbal/earthy flavor. Everything is well balanced and comes together smoothly, not muddled like some beers.

M: Super smooth and clean beer. Just right weight, not too heavy and not too light. Bitterness is decent but doesn't last too long.

O: Maine Brewing hit a home run with this one. Honestly I put this up there with Sculpin and Blind Pig. It might be even better when super fresh. Do yourself a favor and pick up one of these (if you can, they disappear at an incredible rate).

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #55 (August 2011):

Slow pour still produces a sizable head; dull amber glow sans sediment. Fresh clementines, nectarines, strawberry taffy, toasted bread, nutty yeast and fresh-cut grass in the nose. Rustic, smooth yet bitty mouthfeel—a beer of sub- stance. Tame bitterness, though the flavor flogs the taste buds for a while. Nice hop bite with citric and herbal flavors, and some spice in the middle as the dry maltiness tries to rise above. Apple and pear fruitiness, warming alcohol and graininess try to stave off the hop flavor, but it just keeps pushing along. Pretty amazing brew, bringing back some clout for the true East Coast IPAs.

Lot 051811 on the label.
A slightly hazy amber color with a voluminous white head, even with a careful pour. Lots of sticky lace.
Citrus and tropical fruit aroma. Good sweet malt background.
Tropical fruit taste, very sweet. Grapefruit leading to a little bit of piney hops that I hadn't detected in the aroma. Bread.
This was a very well-balanced IPA. Will pick up more of these.

Had at the Sebago end of an era special event. Shared it with my wife and bumped elbows with pretty much every major player in the Maine beer scene.

The color is golden straw slight cloudy with a generous head.

The aroma is is fruity hops very very fresh. Wonderful.

The taste well what can I say its probably the best IPA I've ever had. The taste is all hops but never overwhelming. The flavor starts sweet becomes a citrus hop flavor and ends with a slight bitter of hops flavor. Wonderful.
