Notes/Commercial Description:
Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

This is a re-review of the beer. Bottled 12/3/13 and I'm having it less than 2 weeks from the date.

It comes in a very pumpkin orange with a big fluffy, lingering head. A deep dark marmalade orange. Lots of lacing, hugely fluffly like soap. Out of the bottle and pouring it, I could already smell the fresh aroma it has. Just a beautiful beer.

The aroma is incredible and vibrant. Fresh sweet orange, grapefruit, piney, fruity hops. Lots of tropical fruit with mango, papaya, and pineapple. There’s a bit of a malty backbone.

Wow, the flavor is great. Tropical fruit again in the front of mango, papaya. The general theme then is of grapefruit peel and bitterness. There’s a huge pop of grapefruit peel and then it becomes tangerine and bitter orange. Then this perfectly balanced gentle maltiness cleans it up to help the finish. There’s this strong, but a good dry finish.

The top qualities of this beer are the aroma and its clean aftertaste. It really holds strong being up with some of the top West Coast IPAs. The bottle conditioning and hazy qualities gives this such a great body. It’s drinkable, but not watery.

Extremely hoppy. Very bitter, but with tons of complexity and hoppiness.

I will though that this is not really a "blow your socks off" beer. There are West Coast IPAs that can stand up do this. This is "just" an exceptional example of the style.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #55 (August 2011):

Slow pour still produces a sizable head; dull amber glow sans sediment. Fresh clementines, nectarines, strawberry taffy, toasted bread, nutty yeast and fresh-cut grass in the nose. Rustic, smooth yet bitty mouthfeel—a beer of sub- stance. Tame bitterness, though the flavor flogs the taste buds for a while. Nice hop bite with citric and herbal flavors, and some spice in the middle as the dry maltiness tries to rise above. Apple and pear fruitiness, warming alcohol and graininess try to stave off the hop flavor, but it just keeps pushing along. Pretty amazing brew, bringing back some clout for the true East Coast IPAs.

Lot 051811 on the label.
A slightly hazy amber color with a voluminous white head, even with a careful pour. Lots of sticky lace.
Citrus and tropical fruit aroma. Good sweet malt background.
Tropical fruit taste, very sweet. Grapefruit leading to a little bit of piney hops that I hadn't detected in the aroma. Bread.
This was a very well-balanced IPA. Will pick up more of these.

Had at the Sebago end of an era special event. Shared it with my wife and bumped elbows with pretty much every major player in the Maine beer scene.

The color is golden straw slight cloudy with a generous head.

The aroma is is fruity hops very very fresh. Wonderful.

The taste well what can I say its probably the best IPA I've ever had. The taste is all hops but never overwhelming. The flavor starts sweet becomes a citrus hop flavor and ends with a slight bitter of hops flavor. Wonderful.
