Notes/Commercial Description:
Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

A top notch IPA deserving, I believe, of its much-heralded status. If this was more easily accessible, and a bit lower in price, I could easily see making this a staple.

Pours light gold, just a touch of haziness, with a big fluffy white head that settles down slowly. Nice lacing. Truly exceptional aroma, perhaps the finest aspect of this beer; vivid floral, perfumy, herbal notes; pine; tropical fruit; light biscuit sweetness underneath. I could just cram my nose in the glass and sniff this one all day.

The flavor is also very nice if not up to the all-world status of the nose. Again there is a fruity tropical mango/pineapple/passion fruit aspect intermingled with floral and pine notes and a lot of other subtle hop characteristics. Gentle biscuit malt backbone that never overshadows the hops but supports them beautifully. Very artfully blended; extremely tasty hop variety combination; lovely balance of malt and hops overall. Alcohol is undetectable. Finish is dry, with a lingering aftertaste that’s more flavorful than bitter. Tropical fruit and flowers linger on the tongue.

Medium bodied, smooth carbonation, a nicely creamy feel. This is totally drinkable, full of flavor and finesse, putting a lot of the more heavy-handed hoppy beers to shame in my estimation. Get one and get it fresh if you can!

Bottle poured into a chalice

The beer poured a golden copper color with a full two finger , frothy white head . Great lacings. No visible carbonation .

I can smell the hops on the pour, great! Pine and citrus. Very aromatic.

A tAste of the hops in the middle of my tongue. Citrus and pine roll around on the tongue. Gentle floral notes as the beer warms. Slight malt taste with hops on the back of the tongue.

Smooth mouthfeel with slight carbonation. Very drinkable. A hint of bitterness on the aftertaste.

Family vacation to Maine and driving up with my brother in law. We go to see his brother outside of Portland and he mentions that he lives "about a mile" from the Maine Beer Company. Let's go! Tasting room with plenty of selections , I am on the hunt for lunch and dinner. No dinner but fresh lunch on tap. Buy up a mixed case of fresh beers in the cooler for more tasting afterwards. Bring one bottle back for my neighbor," hey, this is a real good one!" What a well crafted beer. Only wish I had bought more.

Appearance - The beer poured a golden copper color into the IPA glass with bubbly white head that left lacing on the sides of the glass as it dissolved.

Smell - In the aroma, notes of citrus and pine were detectable. The citrus notes are bright and juicy.

Taste- The initial impression of the taste was like taking a bite out of an orange. The sweetness is coupled with notes of orange rind. This yields to pine and something akin to juniper berries. A light malty backbone props the hoppiness to the forefront. The ale becomes progressively more bitter before ending in a resiny finish. The bitterness really sticks to the roof of the mouth and back of the tongue.

Mouthfeel - The carbonation is very modest which allows the intensity of the hops to do a number of the tastebuds. Overall, this is an easy drinker.

Overall - I have waited quite some time to finally have this one. I was not disappointed. This is a well constructed American IPA.
