Had on draft at a local restaurant as well as from the brewery. Solid, but unspectacular IPA. For $6 for a 16.9oz bottle I could think off dozens of better IPAs for less, hence why I felt no need to buy any to take with me.

Giving this beer a very high rate based mostly solely on its smell; it is something out of the ordinary! Fruity and piney! the descriptions "east coast" version of a west-coast-style IPA suits it perfectly. A little bit too "watery" when it comes to both the taste and the mouthfeel; not terribly, but I think I am just getting too used to Tree House beers.

A: Hazy SRM 3ish with plenty of white head.
S: Lovely...like a really good pastry. The sweet malt smells like a fresh-baked mango/pineapple pastry with a touch of citrusy hops. Smells delicious; full but still delicate.
T: Nice light pastry malt-forward start with hop bitterness throughout. The pastry gives way to more tropical fruit and hops.
M: Medium fullness for a pale; a little scrapey but still very drinkable.
O: If only the flavor matched the nose profile a little more...more delicate with less alphas...this might be a perfect beer. Wonderful odors for days. Best Maine I've had so far after II and Peepers.

Bottle dated 05/10/16

Pours a cloudy, hazy golden amber orange with a dense creamy off-white head that doesn't go away. Smells like nectarine, peach, caramelized apricot, spicy mango, papaya, sweet guava, mild passionfruit and pineapple, orange, grapefruit, slight caramel, with earthy grass and floral pine. Tastes like caramelized fresh apricots, peach, mango, nectarine, papaya, sweet guava, some orange, biscuity cracker, with floral pine and dank earthy grass. Feels medium bodied, soft and creamy with low carbonation. This one lives up to the hype for me. Overall a really great IPA.

Pours a hazy opaque orange with a one finger white head. Head dissipates leaving some white lacing along the glass and some spotty foam on top of the beer.

Smell is a pungent aroma of mango, peaches, apricots, orange and grapefruit initially. As the smell develops in your nose you get an undertone of malt with a piney smell.

Taste follows the nose with an initial array of tropical flavors including notes of mango, peach, apricot and orange. As those flavors linger they are met with a nice biscuit malt undertone that is not especially prominent, but very nice. Then there is a strong bitterness as the beer hits the back of the mouth. lots of pine and sap flavor notes come through.

Feel on this beer is mildly carbonated providing a light tingle up front. Resinous almost sticky on the back of the throat, but with a bitter dry finish. Beer is perfectly balanced - not too watery, not too heavy.

Overall this was my first Maine Beer and it did not disappoint. Really fine IPA - definitely a must try when you can get it fresh.

On tap at Hand and Foot in Corning.
The look is cloudy orange-amber with a thin, sticky white head.
The aroma is peaches, apricots, orange, grapefruit, biscuit, and pine.
The flavor is tropical fruit up front. Apricot, peach, a bit of mango and papaya, and grapefruit and orange. Light biscuit malt sweetness in the middle, with a dry finish of orange peel and pine needles.
Medium mouthfeel, creamy, light carbonation.

A superb IPA. Get it if you can.

Amazingly had two of these for only $2 a pint. Being a Mainer myself I think I can safely say this tastes like Maine in a glass.
Smelled heavily of citrus with a nice hint pine.
The taste was like a late summer pine wood bonfire while sipping a glass of grapefruit juice.

Definitely recommend seeking this out for a very interesting experience.

Complex, tropical fruity nose with tons of pine and grapefruit flavor leads to a surprisingly bitter and dry but smooth finish. Lives up to the hype, but just barely.

Possibly the greatest IPA I've ever had. I wish could have a case of this beer, fresh. It's expensive, but worth every last cent...Fruity, hoppy, pine notes. perfect bitterness. Dinner surpasses this beer by a very small margin. Must try if you can get it...

been wanting to try this one for years now...
crisp, clean but slightly hazy pour. some lemon-y aroma wafting off the top.... grapefruit.
super clean taste, piney bitterness, some citrus, grapefruit rind. almost a piece of orange in there too....
seems the IPA world has been evolving but this one, like a Pliny (or Blind Pig), still holds some superiority....

Bottled 03/08/16

Appearance - Pours golden orange and slightly hazy with an off-white, finger width head. Good retention, dissipating to a thin, consistent film across the surface. Lacing is fair, with broken lines and spotting.

Smell - Lots of citrus with tropical notes of pineapple and a hint of mango.

Taste - Follows the nose. Orange and grapefruit citrus character with a touch of pineapple zing. Light pine. Malts are well hidden, providing just a hint of generic, bready sweetness. Mostly clean finish with just a hair of lingering citrus.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Stupid smooth with nigh quaffable qualities. As with most Maine Beer brews, the strength is the ease at which it drinks.

Overall - This is a great beer, but it's a pretty straight-forward IPA that doesn't do much to distinguish itself. Well executed, but blink while drinking it and you might miss it. I'd surely buy it again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

03/08/2016 bottling date served cold in a Stella glass.

Appearance: classic East Coast golden with a slight haze and a nice fluffy head

Nose: pine, grapefruit, bitter orange, citrus, lemony, tons of fruit

Taste: nicely bitter, fruity, citrus, grapefruit, very Pliney like, delicious and slightly dank

Overall: this is a great East Coast IPA. Heady and some of the VT IPAs are better but I'm really glad I got the chance to try this Legend. Thanks to Craig for Beering-It-Forward!

500mL bottle poured into a stemless wine glass.

Look: Dark amber color with a very little bit of haze. A bit of head shows up on the pour but dissapates shortly, leaving a slight lacing.

Smell: Smells almost as good as Dinner does but everything seems a bit scaled up on Dinner. A bit of pine, a tone of citrus and a nice caramel malt backbone.

Taste: This ones a citrus bomb; grapefruit up front, orange, a bit of lemon and a tad of tangerine. The hop resin stays on the tongue well after the sip.

Feel: Feels as most IPAs should, smooth and easy drinking. The bitterness is minimal in this which is good.

Overall: Another fantastic hoppy offering from Maine. Compared to Dinner, everything about this beer seems a bit scaled down to me. I could definitely drink this all day. I'm excited to try the other 5 Maine beers that I got.

A tasty ipa that manages to quell the bitter hopiness, leans more to the fruity side; for someone who isnt the biggest ipa fan; this is probably the best ive tried.....even better than heady.

This is one of my favorites. Very bright and tart with citrus up front, with that slightly sweet finish and perfect balance of malt. Its a west coast type of IPA, but seems more refined and not overwhelmingly bitter. Its hard to get in the south, so Im really happy our local craft bistro got a keg. Me and my growler are having a good day. Get you some!

Poured into teku glass, nice orange body, unfiltered but not too hazy, nice frothy white head after pouring aggressively with strong lacing. The head eventually fades leaving a thin white film Bottled on 2/16/16. Aroma is tropical, but definitely more malty on the taste. Pretty well balanced, but it has a finish that is slightly displeasing. Overall it's a very solid beer, but a little less than I expected.

On tap at The Brew Kettle Works in Strongsville,OH. Poured into a tulip glass.

Slightly hazy orange color with a thick creamy head that leaves awesome lacing around the glass.

Smell is almost non existent. Man I have to really try to anything. Very faint hops and malt.

Tastes of tropical fruit hops with just enough malt to balance. Finishes fairly dry with a touch of bitterness. Shocked at how light in flavor this is.

Mouthfeel is creamy and thin.

Kinda surprised by this one. I expected more as Another One and Mo delivered the goods. This one, not so much. Glad I got to try but wouldn't seek out. I may try a bottle to compare as the draft version seems mediocre at best.

Bottled less than a week old. Straight off the bat after opening the bottle big hit of citrus notes, some grapefruit and orange. Already pretty amazing. Pours a amber-honey with a fluffy white head that lasts the whole drink with some nice lacing. This IPA smells amazing. Very citrusy, strong smell of oranges and slight bitterness of grapefruit. Smells just like sweet orange juice. Taste follows. Starts with a dank pineness that gets overtaken by citrus notes. The orange comes out strong and ends with a sweet, candied orange. Really does live up to the hype. Very balanced between the pine and citrus notes. So good, always enjoy fresh.

12 ounce snifter. Pours a beautiful orange honey hue, with a one finger white head that rapidly recedes leaving marginal lacing. Nose is citrus and hops: orange peel, lemon zest. The palate bright and hop-centric, with the same cirtus fruits outlining the crisp opening, and the slightest twinge of pine on the bitter, hoppy finish. The mouthfeel truly ties this beer together. Light. Bright. Crisp. It accentuates every note of the nose and palate. Overall an outstandingly executed almost-West-coast IPA from the east coast.

You're hit with a blast of bold, hoppy aroma as soon as you pop the top on this one. There's candied orange, raw tangerine and mint.

Looks great in a glass - good color, slightly hazy and a fluffy, creamy white head that produces good lace.

First taste is all pine, borderline astringent and surprisingly thin. After that it softens up a bit as the beer warms and more fruity hop flavors emerge. Soft peach and muddled fruit cocktail try to cut through the pine, along with a hint of dank greenery. Pine continues to dominate though.

Very little malt character - this beer is dry. I'd actually like a little bit more body.

Definitely not a bad beer, but overhyped in my opinion. There's lots of hop presence (it's quite bitter, which I like), but I don't get much complexity and certainly a limited amount of tropical flavors although other reviewers have picked up on more of this. There's a great golden color, and the head retention and especially lacing are quite nice. Overall, I found this forgettable and disappointing for a beer rated as "world-class" on this site.
