Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

Had on tap. Very good beer and my new favorite from the brewery. What impressed me the most about this beer is how light and delicate the flavors are, but also how well the melded together. Taste is citrus, orange, lemon, tangerine, and light malt. This is one I will pick up again.

Poured from a growler filled from State Line liquors at the MD/DE boarder. $20 for a 64oz, expensive, but worth the price.

Very reminiscent of Pliny. Beautiful beer, great flavor, aroma leaves something to be desired, but not huge.

Privileged to enjoy this.
Seek out if you can.

Enjoyed on draft. Was expecting wayyy more. Was really just above average, have had plenty of plus plus ipa's over the last couple of months, and Lunch was just not one of them.

Got in a BIF with beerloserLI. 500 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/2/2015. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt balance; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/peel, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly sticky, and slightly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming after the finish. Overall this is an awesome IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

This used to be one of my favorites. However there are a lot of other new breweries making better beers than this. Taste is great much like dinner, but the aroma is lacking compared to other IPA's.

My expectations were somewhat tempered after hearing a few people downplay this beer before I finally got the chance to try it. Is it among the best of the best? Not quite, but excellent nonetheless.

Pours a deep dark hazy gold with two fingers of fluffy white head that hangs around for a while. Quite a looker. The balance of tropical fruit and bitter hop resin is the most impressive feature. Lots of pineapple and mango in the nose. An initial burst of tropical and floral sweetness on the palate quickly gives way to the piney bitterness. Finishes crisp and clean. It's a bit on the light side, but substantial enough to carry the flavors well.

Overall, I'd consider it a top tier IPA. I overpaid for my bottle just to finally try it. Glad I did, but I'll likely only buy it again if I find it at a more reasonable price.

This beer is amber in color with a big frothy white head. The aroma is sweet and hoppy and the initial flavor is a sweet fruity hoppy beer with subtle dank piney hops following. The only weakness in this beer for me was the mouthfeel. It was much thinner than I like.

I've had this beer many times, but this latest batch tastes like a light version of itself. Not at all what it usually tastes like. Very thin..... On draught at Sunset ..6/28

Bottled on 6/16/2015
A: Beautiful golden bronze like in color with minimal head. Super clear until the final pour from the bottle which is cloudy.

S: Strong notes of grapefruit and some pine. Tropical notes were also present, but not overbearing.

T: Upon first sip, bitterness is detected from the hops. There is a tropical citrus base that can be tasted mid sip. Has a dry finish that seems to dull the tropical character quite a bit.

M: Hops prickly to the tongue, medium-high carbonation. Hops are fairly bitter with a tad bit of stickiness that is also present. A tad bit watery mouthfeel as well.

O: Glad that I finally tracked down a bottle of the elusive "Lunch"!! Solid IPA, but nothing to write home about. Not sure if it meets the hype.

At the pour farm in New Bedford,Ma

Having the beer on tap, the beer is great but not as great as expected.

Smell comes off as a strong hop oil, if that's your thing you'll love it.

Taste same as the smell a strong back bone of hop oil, straight hop bomb.

Drinkability- the beer goes down great, very easy to drink.

May sound like I hate this beer, but it honestly is worth trying at least once. Compared to other great beers it's not even close.

Love it when people smell lemongrass as one of their top 3 smells. Really? You can discern lemon from lemongrass in a beer but nothing else? Do you live in shrubbery?

Anyway, I'm not sure MBC understands the difference between smell and taste. But neither can the general populace, so they've found their niche I guess. As with all MBC beers, this smells excellent and tastes like crap. First time was on tap at the brewery. Not good. Second time I forced it down. Third time, drain pour. Not doing this again.

Stopped at their tasting room on my way home from Boothbay and tried this one on draft. It was everything I had hoped it would be. My only regret is that the 6 bottles I picked up will run out quickly and I'll have to wait until we visit Maine again next summer. still glad that I had an opportunity to finally try this great beer.

If I didn't have principles, I'd pour this. How this beer has the hype it does is mind-boggling. No bright hop character, faint nose, boring malt bill, and just an uninteresting and mediocre IPA. It was pretty and the body of the beer was nice but that's where it ended.

Not impressed with the pour. Want more haze but colour saves it. Smells of light fruit, lemon. Taste is a dry citrus with really well matched hop bitterness. Well carbonated.

Couldn't believe I hadn't reviewed this one yet; available every couple weeks in RI and always worth the purchase at $6.99. When it is in stores, it is consistently one of the best IPAs available on the shelf.

Bottled 2 weeks ago, pours hazy gold orange color with a foamy 1-2 finger slightly off white head with a ton of bubbles in it that faded very slowly and left great spotty foamy lacing and rings as it went down. A small layer lingered on top for another fine looking Maine IPA, and the second half of the bottle poured just as nicely.

Smells of tropical fruit, fresh hops and a bowl of citrus fruit; the nose is light and airy but has strong indications of orange peel, lemon, grapefruit pith, pineapple, mango, tangerine, pine cone/piney hops, biscuit, light caramel, graham cracker, passion fruit and mild spices. All in all it’s soft and fragrant and not an in your face hoppy IPA, but at the same time the smell is wonderful with really juicy fresh hop aromas. Very kind on the nose, it is balanced and near perfect.

Tastes like it smells, with big citrus hops up front and a mix of grapefruit, lemon, pineapple, guava, tangerine, orange peel, caramel, pine cone/piney hops, lightly roasted grains, graham cracker, passion fruit, tea leaf, biscuit, wheat bread crust, dry floral hops or dry flowers, and spices like pepper, coriander and a hint of cinnamon; slightly bitter but the full flavored citrus hops just add some more complexity that it is similar to licking a grapefruit that then gets washed away by a crisp cookie or a graham cracker. Tasty indeed and extremely well balanced, this was very easy to drink and hides the 7% completely.

Mouthfeel is on the creamy and smooth side with very mild carbonation that seems thin, a medium body that’s thicker than the mouthfeel in general, and a slightly bitter finish that is semi-dry and full of juicy citrus hops like this brew was dry hopped.

Drinks and flows down so much easier than 7% ABV, I haven’t had this in a few years and compared notes from 2012 and found it just as great now as it was back then which shows how well Maine Beer Company makes all of their beers. Not a hop bomb, just a fantastic well balanced IPA that is impressive in every way. A very high recommendation, if you don’t mind spending a little extra for a bomber then get this every time you see it as it has always been excellent. Lunch is up there with the best IPA’s every made.

This is a cloudy IPA--I know it's a matter of taste, but I have more respect brewers who can produce a dope clear IPA. The smell is nice, with some subtle tropical fruit, kind of like Zombie Dust. The taste just doesn't carry that fruitiness from the smell through, though. I think this could be a great beer, but it's missing something in the taste. Bottle dated 6/2/15 poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

500mL bottle from HopSynonymous (you rock!). Bottled 5/19/15. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours a pale, opaque orange yellow with a full three fingers of white head. A full ring lingers throughout and imparts some large flakes of lace.

Aromas of orange, pineapple, berries. There is a mild sweetness but the nose seems to be all about the fruity hops.

Those delicious fruity hops continue in the flavor with oranges, papaya, mango, pine and subtle bready sweetness. Great balance that showcases hops and totally covers any alcohol.

Smooth medium feel with supple carbonation. Citrus and lightly tropical notes linger in the finish.

While perhaps not quite up to the expectation, Lunch is a great, balanced IPA. Subtle malts make a nice bed for the bright, fruity hops.

On tap at Walrus + Carpenter in early 2015 and then out of the bottle multiple times after that. Pours a gorgeous slightly hazy gold with a thick head. Super hoppy aroma is totally inviting. Wonderful melange of hops on the tongue. Citrus, juice, pine, herbs, lavender, touch of lemon. Biscuity and sweet malts never overwhelm but the body might be a hair too much. Easy to drink.

Tasted on tap at The Great Bear in Portland, ME. Perfect toasted orange, slightly hazy appearance with a Snow White head, 1/8". Excellent frothy lacing. Sweet N' piny aroma, as well as apricot. Flavor is resinous and not too harshly bitter like many IPAs. It's pretty mellow despite the initial flavor.

Tried at ACBF in Boston and enjoyed it. Had another the next day at TITS in Allston. Given how much better it was the next day, there are a lot beers from ACBF that I need to try with a clean palate. Love all MBC beers (so far)

500ml bottle poured into snifter, purchased at CBX in Charleston for $8.
A: pours a shiny golden color, the kind you would see on gold bars at Fort Knox haha, 2 finger brilliant white foam head that fades to the perimeter, syrupy stringy lacing, carbonation
S: citrus fruits of orange, pineapple, sweet grapefruit, malt, papaya, very soft flavors
M: medium creamy body, slight dry finish
T: orange, papaya, citrus, salty cracker, bitter hops, malt, finish of earthy green hops, piney resin that slowly numbs the taste buds and leaves a slight oily resin in the tongue.
O: really solid brew, very well balanced between bitter and malt, the aroma is kinda soft considering the flavors you get, definitely a +90 brew. Hop heads will enjoy. Alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you with an empty stomach.

Beautiful IPA - found it on tap in Boston. Pours a golden hue with a distinct citrus and slightly piney aroma. Drinks super easy and certainly leaves the palette intact after a glass or two. The resin and pine characteristics are confined to the aroma and hop-kiss that comes on quickly but then graciously makes way for the bready slightly sweet malt and finally the bitterness that prevents it from becoming too sweet. One of the more crisp IPAs I've enjoyed all year - awesome dose of hops balanced by a light malt backbone and a bitterness that doesn't overwhelm.

Swung by the Nashua Garden today for some post bike ride libations. Saw Lunch on, so I sez "wtf, Gus?!".

It's a bright, slightly hazy golden hue, with slow, scattered carbo meandering about. Head is creamy and white, though short. Lacing is decent, too. Nose has some pithy citrus and a hint of sweetness. Not overly strong, though. Body is medium at best, and it is somewhat smooth.

Flavor is light on malt and sweetness, with bitterness prevailing. There's some grapefruit and lemon peel, with plenty of rindy, pithy hopping. The finish is rather dry, with the bitterness lingering a tad. It's really a bitter-bomb, though I've had many such creations which have given me more pleasure (Double Jack, DirtWolf, Big A).... Seems like a product of the tickerati hype machine (THM™). Quite glad that I snagged it during Happy hour for only $3.50/pint. Prosit!

Really yummy citrus bust and an effervescent mouthfeel, great! Little yeasty, but only a tad in the back and I still think it's like a 4.6 beer. Really thin and easy to drink. Very good. Heady's my fav for reference
