The label art is simple and exquisite! A huge fist of white meringue builds and lasts the entire session, while carbonation continuously sends up reinforcements from within a clear, yellow-gold (SRM 4-6) elixir, and thick patches of lace embrace the Harp nonic glass.
The aroma entices one with fresh citrus, ranging from grapefruit to orange, while strong pinesap and mango come out with slight warming. Peaches and pineapple follow as well.
Bitter earthiness is almost balanced with sweet citrus, but wins out in the end. This is simply freshness in a glass with mouthwatering grapefruit and pineapple flavors. Some light celery and rye form a nice backdrop while a long, modest finish carries one to the next sip.
A slick, medium body with fizzy carbonation is accented by light metallic notes in this extremely fresh beer. Alcohol is as expected, noticeable, but still a background player.
If one considers MO to be an exemplary APA, then most others are poor examples of the style. Happily, one could easily enjoy a few pints with friends during a long, hot, casual summer afternoon.
MO will become a summer staple for me for as long as Maine Beer Company continues to send it my direction.
