Our first run at an American Pale Ale. Flavors and aromas of zesty citrus, passionfruit, and pine present themselves throughout. A very subtle malt sweetness for balance, but this is intended to finish dry.

Poured into my spiegelau IPA glass, quite simply another hit from Maine Beer...I've never been disappointed. Beautiful pour with a huge frothy head, great retention and lacing. Slightly hazy, light orange-yellow color. The aroma presents a big burst of pine, with slight grass and citrus. Unbelievably smooth and easy to drink, instantly one of my favorite pales. Great balance of piney, floral, hops and sweet malt. (416 characters)

Pour - Burnt orange with a thick white head
Smell - a small burst of pine
Taste - mild upfront with a nice bitterness at the end. Not as balanced as other Pale Ales I've had, but still very good beer
Overall - soft mouthfeel, leaves a little tang at the end. Easy to drink at only 6% (285 characters)

L- hazy deep yellow. Basically can't see through it. Sudsy head that's hear to hang the fuck out. Superb lacing. Pretty ass beer.
S- lemons rind. Grapefruit. Light breadyness. Got this lemon lime thing goin on.
T- first is a wave of big citrus notes. Transitions nicely to a nice mix of grass and pine all the while being slightly supported by a nice white cracker taste. Lite lingering bitterness makes it hard not to take another sip immediately
F- as creamy a 6 percent beer that iv come across but never feeling heavy. Perfect hop delivery system.
O- great beer. Pretty old school in terms of flavor profile but done fairly flawlessly. Wicked good pale ale (663 characters)

This was an exceptional beer for the style. There was a expertly balanced execution here, that is simply nonexistent in other beers of the style. There is a great bountiful representation of fruit flavors; balanced by a mild but adequate hop presence.

Would absolutely drink again. (282 characters)

Golden pour with lasting white head. Pretty. Aromas of fruit and pine are prevalent. Same comes through in delicious flavor, never tending too bitter. Very balanced, but slightly too much carbonation for my liking. Otherwise top-notch. (235 characters)

Pours a beautiful pale honey gold with a good head which recedes in a few minutes. The smell is juicy for a pale, with tons of tangerines, papaya, melon, and citrus jumping out. The taste follows, nice biscuits pale malts perfectly balance the juicy hops that steal the show. A nice piney citrus mix hits you first, followed by a tinge of sweet fruits, with a grapefruit finish that evolves into strong tangerine as the beer warms. A tangerines taste lingers in your mouth with some slight hop bitterness. Would really like to know the bittering hops used here. Unreal. The feel is almost perfect to style, nice and drinkable with a decent but not overwhelming bite of carbonation and the perfect amount of bitterness on the finish. Overall, this is a world class pale ale. Seek this out fresh if this is your style. (816 characters)

1Pint.9oz bottle into a shaker pint.

A: Pours a just-slightly hazy straw/copper with 1" fluffy white head that recedes slowly. Retention & lacing are both exceptional.

S: Subtle hints of citrus & some floral notes balanced very nicely against ever-so-slightly sweet graham crackery malt.

T: Comes on with floral notes that lead into a bright mid palate of citrus zest & grassy fields. Traces of resinous hop character come into focus here & linger nicely through the off-sweet crackery finish. Just amazing.

M: Moderate-to-high carb married to a very light, delicate, slightly soapy body. Finishes crisply. Maybe a skootch too light for all the flavors here.

O: This is an unbelievably deep, balanced Pale. Among the best to have ever passed my lips. (766 characters)

A - Voluminous four plus fingers worth of rich creamy off white colored head densely packed with some big chunky bubbles mixed in... Rock star retention... The color is a slightly muted golden honey... A moderate bit of slightly sluggish carbonation throughout... Gobs of lacing cling to the sides of the glass...

S - The nose is of bright and vibrant citrusy hops... Grapefruit is at the forefront... A faint malty bread base... Some very light caramel and toffee notes linger way beneath the surface... Simple, straight forward and very effective...

T - It should be no surprise that the hops are again at the forefront... However on the palate they are slightly less citrusy with some piney goodness mixed in... They sit atop a sturdy malt base of biscuit and bread crust... Like the nose, this is fairly simple but extremely well executed...

M - Medium bodied... Sturdy... Lush but slightly chewy... Bright carbonation... Dense and rich... Slightly unique and very effective...

D - This is a world class American Pale Ale... Attention to detail and a lot of subtleties add up to make one outstanding offering... Outstanding in all facets... I don't have a single bit of constructive criticism and this one is near perfection... Maine Brewing has a good thing going and I hope keeps going for a very long time... (1,344 characters)

Ratings are correct below, but I changed some marks above to make the final rating as close as possible with Beer Advocate's "revamped" system. The 4.47 overall rating is accurate.

Type: 500ml (16.9-oz.) bottle
Glass: Pint mug
From: Eddy’s Beverage Inc. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Price: $6.99
Purchased: July 14, 2015
Consumed: July 16, 2015
Misc.: Born on June 30, 2015

Poured a golden, pale, semi-clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of off-white, frothy head. Average amount of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Great looking spiderweb layered lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention. (Sight - 4.25)

First thought on the smell was wow. Getting floral, Citra, pine, tropical, tangerine, red grapefruit rind, pineapple, nectarine zest, light mango, sharp apricot and faint peach. Kind of reminded me of Alpine’s Duet. This was great on the nose. (Smell - 4.63)

Taste didn’t quite live up to the nose, but very good. Actually reminded me of a session IPA, which I get is pretty close to a pale ale. Got floral, tropical, pineapple, pine, tangerine rind, orange blossom, light passion fruit, sharp grapefruit and juicy apricot. Could almost taste pulp. (Taste - 4.38)

Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, fruity finish. (Feel - 4.63)

This was fantastic. Not quite as good as an Alpine (not Green Flash) Hoppy Birthday, but pretty damn close. So fresh. (Overall - 4.50)

Dated 06/30/15

Sexy pour, beautiful color and thick foamy head with solid retention ... Also the beer is so drinkable that Its almost too easy to finish before the head has receded. Great scent of pine and citrus, taste is similar with awesome citrus and hop notes that are perfectly balanced with slightly sweet malts.

Overall this brew is ridiculously smooth and drinkable - gushing with fruity citrus flavors perfectly followed by resinous hops. It's so flavorful but remains one of the most refreshing and drinkable beers I've had, which is often a difficult balance to achieve. Bottom line, I love this beer and would drink it every day if I could afford it. (667 characters)

Because every place around me is usually sold out of Lunch by the time i get there, i've been able to try the other varieties of Maine Beer Co frequently. MO is probably my favorite of the bunch that i can find regularly. I do enjoy Weez and Peeper too. Mo is slightly bitter but smooth. Very refreshing and looks fuckin tasty. I drink beers like these too fast. (363 characters)

BOD 3/10/15. Pours a clear golden with just a touch of amber. World class head volume, lacing and retention.

World class rich complex nose of tropical hops (pineapple, mango), citric (orange), a touch of pepper and pine resin over very subtle biscuit.

Light body with a smooth texture coupled with a subtle oily character. Normally carbonated with a touch of effervescence in the middle and a fair burst in the finish.

The flavor profile is almost world class. It lacks just a bit of biscuit sweetness to provide more balance and enhance the complexity. It is a tropical hop forward pale ale with a pine resin background. Bitterness is mild with a subtle orange bitterness underneath. The hop flavors of the nose all make an appearance. The finish is slightly dry and a pine/rind bitterness lingers. (810 characters)

Beer Review # 1,000! Bottling date of 05/12/15

Appearance - Pours slightly hazy and gold in color with a 2-finger, off-white head. Great retention before breaking down to a thin layer of suds across the top. Fine, consistent lacing is left all along the glass with great stick.

Smell - Tropical aroma with huge pineapple notes, along with lesser mango and citrus. Clean, simple, and stimulating!

Taste - Follows the nose. Clean profile with pineapple and citrus notes with light mango character. Malt profile is faint, with hints of bready sweetness. Hints of stone fruit pit. Clean, juicy citrus finish.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. Silky smooth texture, going down with amazing smoothness.

Overall - Wow. I was hoping to get my hands on Heady for my 1,000th review, but unfortunately I couldn't find the time to get up to VT on my trip to CT/NY. This is a hell of a consolation prize! Clean, juicy and amazingly drinkable. One of the great pale ales out there. If there's one gripe, and it's a minor one, it could have used a touch more malt to add complexity and balance. It's a beast regardless. Get your hands on it if you can. (1,168 characters)

Bought at Trader Joes, poured into willy glass. A slightly hazy, light pinkish-orange with a small white head that sticks around and leaves some good lace. Aroma is citrusy and sweet, with just a hint of pine. Taste is really well balanced with citrus hops, vague sweet malt and a nice finishing bitterness. Mouth is just right for the style, medium-thin, nicely carbed, refreshing. Overall, this is a great pale ale. (422 characters)

05/12/15 bottle
Light amber, basically exactly the colour of apple juice. Maybe a finger of head to start, but settles and consolidates to the center with soapy bubbles, but a disperse creep of white remains. Decent lacing.

Nose is fresh fruit and citrus. Mango and tangerine primarily. Juicy.

Flavour is muted themes carried from the nose. Some tangerine, much more cereal grains than I smelled. Much less juicy. Maybe some blunt pine, citrus and some biscuity malts.
Finish is an earthy pine bitter.

Decent medium-small body unoffensive carbonation and a clean dry finish. A good APA, though I had hyped it up in my mind too much. (636 characters)

Pour is golden amber with a tight white head. Nose has hints of grain with strong hops and a bit sweet. A ton of citrus, orange peel, and light resin. Taste has more grain than the nose, clean. Still a bit sweet, lots of citrus, hints of pepper and some earthy notes, with a finish of resin and light bitterness through the finish. Fairly dry, a hint syrupy on the feel, well carbonated. Decent stuff. (405 characters)

I had big hopes for this beer but it's honestly pretty average. A slight sweet, cereal malt flavor. Dry, bitter hops. But I wasn't pleased with the balance, a touch sweeter than I'd like. It's not too malty, just too sweet. (223 characters)

Hazy dark yellow -- like a hefeweizen -- with a finger of lasting white head. Nice citrus and passion fruit on the nose. Very tropical. No hop bitterness at all in the flavor, and very little malt profile either. Almost like a watered down fruit juice. Interesting. Not necessarily good though. (298 characters)
