American Pale Ale (APA) |  6.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our first run at an American Pale Ale. Flavors and aromas of zesty citrus, passionfruit, and pine present themselves throughout. A very subtle malt sweetness for balance, but this is intended to finish dry.

500ml bottle dated 7/15/14 poured into an unlabeled snifter 9/1/2014.

A- Light, slightly hazy, caramel body with a two finger white head, fair retention time. The head drops into a thick, bubbly collar that sticks around for a while. Not much lacing. [3.75]

S- Clean caramel and toffee pale malt sweetness, some grapefruit. Not too complicated, but smells quite good. [3.75]

F- Plenty of grapefruit accompanied by grainy pale malt sweetness, bread, caramel and crackers. Pine on the finish. More than solid; this is certainly a fairly hop-forward pale ale. [4]

M- Medium bodied, crisp and carbonated just right. Dry, refreshing, crisp and sharp. Finish is pine resin mixed in with grainy pale malt sweetness. [4]

O- More than solid APA although that still doesn't justify the likely cost. Still, despite the relative lack of complexity, this is nicely executed without off-flavours or lacking in any particular category. [4]

Final score: 3.9375

A: MO pours a nice bright tangerine color, with some chill haze, but pretty clear. 2 fingers of creamy, fluffy head that leaves a gorgeous thick lacing on the glass all the way down.
S: Strong hop aroma. I pick up grassyness, some pine, and light herbal qualities with some citrus in there too, specifically orange peel.
T: Follows the nose exactly. Hop forward for sure, with a grassy and herbal quality to it. There are some citrus and pine notes too. Great crackery and biscuity backbone to this beer from the malt.
MF: DRINKABLE! Smooth and light in the mouth, with a crisp feel and dry finish that brings me right back to the glass for another gulp. So easy to drink and so enjoyable on my taste buds.
O: Amazing APA from MBC. While Peeper is a great beer, this one is just so much better in my opinion. I wish I could get these beers in TN.
