American Pale Ale (APA) |  6.00% ABV

Availability: Rotating

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our first run at an American Pale Ale. Flavors and aromas of zesty citrus, passionfruit, and pine present themselves throughout. A very subtle malt sweetness for balance, but this is intended to finish dry.

500ml bottle 2 wks fresh poured into HF glass

Golden, copper, slightly hazy body, off-white head of 2 fingers, great retention and lacing.

Juicy tropical fruit flavors with pineapple, mango, lemon and orange peel, pine needles, nice aroma.

Hop fruity, piney, flavor is straightforward, not too much malt backing, a little watery and thin, mild sweetness, mild bitterness.

Body is light, thin, crisp, easy-drinking, mildly dry finish.

Overall a great easy drinking pale that is certainly overpriced but definitely enjoyed.

Bottled on 10/22/13
A - huge ivory head tops an amber colored ale. Incredible head retention and lacing
S - super fresh aroma of zesty citrus, tropical mango, pine, juicy fruit, caramel, biscuit
T - excellent blend of bitter and sweet: pine, grapefruit zest, orange zest, juicy fruit gum, tropical notes, mango, caramel, grassy, slightly earthy, juicy spicy hops
M - medium, resinous, hop oils stick to the palate, finishes very dry and fairly bitter with lingering pine, very easy to drink
O - impeccable American Pale Ale. Excellent complexity and balance; just awesome.

16.9 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled on Sept 24, 2013.

A: Pours a hazy golden with a full white head. Large bubbles form in the foam and slowly break it down. Big carbonation bubbles are seen shooting to the surface. Leaves some nice lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Very nice hop aroma on this one, really comes through with noticeable citrus qualities. Pale malts back it up but the focus is on the hops.

T: Flavor is great, has the illusion of balance with low bitterness but is very hop forward and flavorful. Earthy tones to it with the blend of malts and hops. Just comes across as an outstanding hoppy beer.

M: Creamy mouthfeel that has a crisp dose of carbonation. Finish is dry and doesn't have much lingering stickiness. Real easy drinking.

Overall this really shows what a pale ale can taste like. Certainly doesn't have the IBU's of an IPA but the hop flavor shines. A must try by anyone even those who normally shy away from hoppier beers.
