Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American robust porter. Dark, thick, chewy, chocolaty, and of course, generously hopped.

Poured from 16.9 oz bottle into Great Divide Yeti tulip. Bottled 9/23/12. Let sit for ten minutes before reviewing.

A: Dark, dark, dark. No light getting through. Poured to a nice finger and a half khaki head, which dissipated to a thin halo with a little lingering of bubbles in the middle.

S: A ton of cocoa and dark chocolate. Not picking up on any of the hops MBC is known for. Excited to try something new from them.

T: Oh yeah. The chocolate is done just right and I do pick up on some of the hop bitterness on the back of my tongue. Very well-balanced and, though it is sweet, it is not overly so.

M: I would say that this is perhaps a tad thin, but I needed to be reminded that this is a porter, not a stout. Coats the tongue well and has a nice lingering flavor. Hides a relatively high ABV very well.

O: Very impressed by this beer. Though not cheap, I am willing to try most anything I see from MBC. I would still likely go with a few other cheaper porters over this one, but would not hesitate to revisit it when in the mood to treat myself to something nice.

My first Maine Beer Co. beer.Pours like a stout, nearly black with a one finger deep beige head that leaves a full ring of lace behind as it settles.Chocolate and nuts at first whiff, some roast and and a little drunken fruit, well rounded.Creamy and full feel with light carbonation.flavors of what a porter should be,roasty with some nuttiness,a little raw and earthy, and just enough caramel and brown sugar-like sweetness to round out everything nicely.I had high hops for this beer and it delivered and then some, kick ass.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high dense tan head that rapidly dissipated, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of burnt and roasted malts are present in the nose as well as some hints of pine resin hops.
T: The taste has flavors of dark chocolates and roasted malts along with hints of citrusy hops and a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp and chewy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a very bold tasting porter that is easy to drink.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip snifter.

A: dark dark brown, pretty well black. Huge three finger head, Tight tan to light brown with tight small bubbles. Clear as black can be. Head dissipated slowly, lasts and stops at about a finger.
S: dark fruit, some coffee, chocolate. Very toastyand roasty but not burnt.
T: Classic porter....a bit tart with huge roasty flavors. Slight vanilla. Dark plum. Some stickiness and very slight sweetness in the finish.
M: full rich mouthfeel, borderline light cream. Medium carbonation. Long last to the finish.
O: not a huge porter fan, but this is very nice. Medium to low on the sticky-sweet-tartness that I'm not a fan of in most porters. Highly recommended.

I love this brewery; they've made consistently good beers.
This beer is black in color with a small orange/tan head. There's a little bit of lace.

Aroma of sweet chocolate and roasted malt/coffee.

The taste improves on the aroma. The chocolate is more bittersweet than sweet, and the coffee is much stronger than the aroma suggested. Strong dark coffee.

Very tasty. I don't think it's that heavy a beer, but it definitely a sipping beer. I will drink more of these.

Pours a deep brown almost black color with appreciable tan head, thin tan collar, some tan swirls when agitated. Aroma is of coffee, roasted malt, some burnt earth. Taste is lighter malt that the nose lends to. Some coffee in the mid palate and a touch of char towards the end. Nice thick body and medium carbonation.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Black, with a thin beige head that lasted a long time. No lacing on the glass.

Smell: Roasted malts, some faint coffee notes and alcohol.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth full bodied. Taste is of roasted malts, bitter hops, and some coffee in the background.

Overall: Not a huge fan of Porters personally, but I must give credit when due, and this is a great brew.
