American Porter |  7.50% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American robust porter. Dark, thick, chewy, chocolaty, and of course, generously hopped.

A: Dark, dark brown. Almost black, but not quite there. Forms a very large, dark tan/mocha colored head that reduces fairly quickly to a patchy surface coating. Leaves some light lacing on the way down.

S: A not very aromatic beer, but what is there is heavily roast malts and dark chocolate.

T: Well, unlike the aroma, the flavor is quite pronounced. Chocolate dominates over everything else, though there is a substantial amount of heavily roasted malts in the mix. Char, cocoa, molasses, coffee, and raisin all to a lesser extent. Mild sweetness. Long chocolatey finish.

M: Full bodied. Silky smooth on the front end, but chalky on the finish. Mild bitterness. Easy carbonation.

O: Opened this bottle with some cheese and charcuterie and I regretted it. The pairing was horrible so I saved it for after. In doing so, I was able to appreciate this beer for the wonderful beer it is - a full on chocolate bomb porter.

A: Pours jet black, 1 1/2 finger tan head that lasts and lasts, but little lacing.

S: Initially sweet, then roasty and chocolaty. Suggestions of biscuit.

T: At first blush: TOAST! Really toasty, alcohol apparent, a bit sour and bitter for the style, I thought, almost burnt-tasting at times. Over-hopped? Improves as it warms.

M: Heavy and smooth.

O: Not bad. Not a great porter, but at its best it tastes like toast with Nutella. Could be richer, creamier, less hoppy.
