Notes/Commercial Description:
Our take on an American robust porter. Dark, thick, chewy, chocolaty, and of course, generously hopped.

A: Pours jet black, 1 1/2 finger tan head that lasts and lasts, but little lacing.

S: Initially sweet, then roasty and chocolaty. Suggestions of biscuit.

T: At first blush: TOAST! Really toasty, alcohol apparent, a bit sour and bitter for the style, I thought, almost burnt-tasting at times. Over-hopped? Improves as it warms.

M: Heavy and smooth.

O: Not bad. Not a great porter, but at its best it tastes like toast with Nutella. Could be richer, creamier, less hoppy.

Aroma: Medium sweet roasty malt flavor with milk chocolate (cocoa nibs and lacto) and slightly nutty notes. Low spicy hop aroma in the background, very fresh. No DMS, no diacetyl, hint of metallic.

Appearance: Black, opaque with NO light shining through even at the edges. Brown medium thick rocky head.

Flavor: Medium slightly sweet chocolate, medium roast that lingers long into the finish. Bitterness is medium with light earthy notes. Bitterness also lingers. No DMS, No diacetyl.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, very creamy which adds a lot this beer. No astringency.

Overall: Sneaky 7.5%. Balanced roast and chocolate. I would love to see how this would taste on nitro. My favorite Maine Beer Co. beer thus far.
