Our take on an American robust porter. Dark, thick, chewy, chocolaty, and of course, generously hopped.

I have been looking forward to trying King Titus. This bottle pours a black hole. There's not even light able to penetrate the edges of the glass. A dense, craggy, meringue-like coffee colored head grows easily on the pour, lasts forever, and leaves chunky lacing. Yet another great looking beer from Maine Brewing.

Moderate roast and rich, cold, coffee with cream jump forward immediately. The roast pushes through to to the finish and is met with soft vanilla and pithy nuttiness. Mild citric and floral hoppiness lends balance. This is a really amazing smelling porter, nothing flashy but certainly well crafted and delicious.

The flavor is much the same as the aroma. The depth of the roast and coffee are delicious and rich. The cream, vanilla, and nuttiness add a much welcomed aspect and the soft hoppiness sets things off on the finish. Each and every flavor is flawlessly integrated into the next until they layer for great complexity.

While the body remains airy there's good weight that's amazingly velvety and smooth. A touch of roasty bitterness lingers on the swallow with some mild alcohol fumes through the nose. The mouthfeel is decadent but not taxing and the drinkability is off the charts.

King Titus is one of the best porters I've ever had. It even gives Founders version a run for its money. Rich, complex, bold, but never overdone. An expertly crafted beer and one I will buy often in the future.

Pours a very deep brown with a nice 1 inch mocha head. Smell is chocolate, cocoa, with a little coffee and roasted malts. Taste is cocoa and chocolate with a hint of hop bitterness and oatmeal. Medium body with medium tolow carbonation. Overall a very good porter.

Brownish black pour, huge head of billowing mocha tinged foam, big clumps of fluffy 3-D lacing all over the glass, coating it. Long lasting and really nice looking.

Roasty aroma, milk chocolate, toast, mellow char.

Extremely creamy and roasty, mellow hoppy bitterness, long lingering aftertaste of bitter dark chocolate and mild ashy char. Light green hops in the background. Everything is balanced and all elements are in sync. Very polished and enjoyable all around, nothing out of place. Great stuff, very happy MBC has finally arrived in Chicago.

I've made my way through a lot of the MBC offerings and have loved just about all of them and was not disappointed by this one.
Poured at about 55 degrees jet black with a foamy inch or two head that lingers for a bit but isn't as deep/dark brown as a stout and is more of a light chocolate color. Interesting sweetness in the nose that reminds me of burnt brown sugar and cocoa powder and a bit biscuity. Taste is very nice chocolately but not sticky sweet with a bit of roasted coffee notes. Definitely a bit thin versus a stout but goes down easy with a nice lingering slightly bitter dryness left behind.

Overall this will stand up to some of the best porters I've had and I'll be buying this one again for sure

Pours a thick (2 finger) nut brown head, fading fast but leaving plenty of lacing. Brew is an oily, smooth chocolatey black, completely opaque.

Aroma is sweet with strong coffee, bitter chocolate, and grapes; wheat struggles in the background, along with a hint of dry hops.

Smooth, sweet chocolate in a glass. Slightly sour grape, black coffee, oatmeal, milk, and wheat grain all take a background to the chocolate.

Feel is thick and chewy, like chewing on chocolate wheat. I'm not sure if this is a porter, or the greatest breakfast cereal of all time. Very minor foaming, no bite or sting, and the 7.5% is incredibly well-hidden.

This isn't a stout? This is an incredibly thick, luscious, velvety porter. An excellent choice for dessert, although I imagine it would make a great breakfast all by itself on a weekend.

A - Solid looking beer. Thick black body with thin cola highlights. Thick cap of light tan foam with awesome lace and great retention.

S - Brownie batter with just a hint of cocoa cola and coffee.

T - The brownie batter from the nose is loaded throughout the profile. Sharp, dark roasted coffee and burnt toast frame the sweet milk chocolate center. Cream and coffee grind finish.

M - Awesome mouthfeel. Silky smooth, full frame. Almost feels like a nitro bottle.

O - A great brew, honestly more stout than porter, but a great brew either way.
