Bottled on 8/2/2013
A: Dark black opaque ale with a massive head. First slow pour produced 4 fingers of fluffy brownish/tan head that left heavy cascading lacing on the glass. Next pour to finish the bottle added another two finger head. Very carbonated and good looking beer.
S: Pure grapefruit sweetness and bitterness in the nose, hints of melon and caramel in there as well.
T: Complex flavor. First rush is sweet grapefruit with hints of honey, cantaloupe and a little caramel. The carbonation kicks in to blend the flavors with some toasted chocolate, a little smoke and some minute amounts of coffee. Very good bitter finish as well as the hops hit first and bitter in the end.
M: Very creamy beer, not quite as thick and heavy as a stout even though it may look like one by the color. Good carbonation that really cuts the flavors in half.
O: Very good beer. I love the strong hop aroma of a good DIPA with the mix of roasted chocolate malt. Well balanced and delicious.

Poured from the 3 week old bottle into the MBC ale hybrid weizen/pilsner blass.
A: Dark creamy ale, seems nitro charged. Opaque with light brown head that starts pretty big and collapses into a 4mm disk. Can be excited into froth at any time. minimal lacing and kinda brown at the edges. Tasty lookin'!
S: Neo hops, like Mosaic or Azzaca, mild. Malt shines through with strong toffee note.
T: Well blended neo-hop and dark chocolate malted milk ball.
M: Very delicate on the tongue, with a slightly acidic, almost lactic side of tongue with malty swallow, slightly thin on uptake. After swallow, it kinda wells up into a creamy, bitter note then kinda hangs around with a very slight hint of chalkiness.
O: Great effort again from MBC. Outright solid.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.
Poured a deep balk hue with a two finger frothy tan head there was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured roasted malts, burnt sugar and herbal hops.
The taste offered elements of charcoal and smoke with piney and herbal hops.
The mouthfeel was full with a dry finish.
Overall a superior black IPA.
