Notes/Commercial Description:
Hoppy and roasty American IPA, brewed as the dark-colored counterpart to Another One (both beers incorporate the exact same kettle and dry hopping schedule). Weez presents a blend of hoppy and roasty notes on the nose, followed by hoppy resins on the tongue, and finishes with a deep roast.

I picked this bottle up yesterday at the brewery on release day. It has been in my fridge since I brought it home. Dating on the bottle claims that it was bottled yesterday morning! It features the same hops as Another One, also released yesterday, but a different grain bill. I'm serving the beer in my Maine Beer Company flute.

This is a dark beer with a pretty brown foam head. The liquid is dark brown with lots of clinging carbonation. The settling head leaves decent lacing.

The beer has a strong grapefruit aroma. I am not able to smell the roasted malts, which is a little surprising.

This is a tasty beer, but it tastes more like a regular IPA than a black IPA (or whatever you want to call this style of beer). The roasted malts aren't providing much flavor, but nor is there a slight sweetness like I tasted in Another One. The hops are not as oily or bitter as that IPA either. I find it easier to drink and a more enjoyable beverage.

Average body and carbonation. There is a slight stickiness to my lips and inside my mouth, but it isn't distracting. I actually had to actively think about mouthfeel before I realized the coating was there.

This is a good hoppy dark ale. I'm glad to see MBC succeed at something new, even if it is another hoppy beer. I'd definitely drink this one again.

From 07/23/14 notes. On tap at Rattle n Hum in NYC. 14 oz pour in a tulip.

a - Pours a dark mahogany brown color with one inch of dark brown head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks very nice.

s - Smells of roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, pint hops, and very light citrus. very good, though not as balanced or hoppy as I was expecting. Roasted notes dominate the nose.

t - Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, pine hops, citrus hops, floral notes, grapefruit, cocoa, and mocha notes. More balanced than the nose and more hops, very good and better.

m - Medium body and low to moderate carbonation. No bitterness, pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall a good Black IPA...not one of the best I've had, and not MBC's best, but quite good. Taste is good and balanced, worth checking out.

Poured from the 3 week old bottle into the MBC ale hybrid weizen/pilsner blass.

A: Dark creamy ale, seems nitro charged. Opaque with light brown head that starts pretty big and collapses into a 4mm disk. Can be excited into froth at any time. minimal lacing and kinda brown at the edges. Tasty lookin'!

S: Neo hops, like Mosaic or Azzaca, mild. Malt shines through with strong toffee note.

T: Well blended neo-hop and dark chocolate malted milk ball.

M: Very delicate on the tongue, with a slightly acidic, almost lactic side of tongue with malty swallow, slightly thin on uptake. After swallow, it kinda wells up into a creamy, bitter note then kinda hangs around with a very slight hint of chalkiness.

O: Great effort again from MBC. Outright solid.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a deep balk hue with a two finger frothy tan head there was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured roasted malts, burnt sugar and herbal hops.

The taste offered elements of charcoal and smoke with piney and herbal hops.

The mouthfeel was full with a dry finish.

Overall a superior black IPA.
