The atmosphere was neat. It looks like an old style New England Barn on the outside. When you go in it is more of a modern feel. You can watch the beer making process through the window. I was a little disappointed that they did not have Lunch in the bottle (sold out). But they did have it on tap. The prices were kind of high.

The tasting room is quite small, so you should expect to stand at the bar, especially if you are up there any time near a Dinner release. The vibe is quite simple, but pleasant. Almost every beer they produce (Dinner excluded) is on tap and/or bottled and available from the fridge.

The review below me about the terrible service was pretty on point. They acted like it was a burden selling me beer. One bartender was a little awkward, but nice. The other had absolutely zero interest in conversing or being personable. It was off putting and a little disappointing consider how much I love this brewery and their beer.

All Beer incredible. Service at Brewery is terrible on many occasions coming back to Portland from road trips we have stopped in and felt like they were doing us a favor selling us beer. We miss Jeremy B. He was all about beer and customer service.

Definitely a good place to stop. Went here to buy Maine Dinner, and that beer is phenomenal.

Never disappointed with any of their products, never less than solid, many exceptional. Lunch and Dinner are among my favorite beers.

Great place and great beer. I visited on a Saturday and must have been of like mind with many others ... the place was packed! Tried several beers and all were very good to great. This place would be even more enjoyable with more space! As with many tasting rooms in New England, it almost feels like an afterthought.

Service was quick and understandably impersonal. There are a few tables, a nice window into brewhouse, and the place is spotlessly clean. Definitely a worthy visit.

I've had the pleasure of trying each and every one of their beers and the stuff coming out of Maine Beer Co is nothing short of outstanding.

First: the beer. MBC makes some fantastic hop-forward beers, each of which has a profile (between the malt and the water) quite unique. MBC brews are instantly identifiable, and more importantly, delicious.

Second: the brewery. The facilities are relatively small, but the staff is very friendly and open. They've got long communal tables for the samples (no food), which you can get as a flight of 4 or a flight of 8. You can get a decent selection of their beer on the premises, including very limited brews (oddly, no growlers). There is also a corner with some childrens' games and books, which is great for family trips to the brewery.

The main room has an open window looking into the brewery itself, so if you can't get a tour, at least you can see their operation.

If you're near the area, there's no reason not to swing by MBC for a visit.

Upon entering the taproom, I turned to my wife and said "This place smells delicious". All of the beer samples throughout the place created a citrusy hop smell in the air! It was crowded and busy in the middle of the afternoon, but I grabbed a Lunch and found a nice quiet bench next to the viewing area to taste and take notes. They had several of their beers on taps and a few bottles in the cooler as well. Nice viewing area of the brewery operation.

Overall, my favorite brewery. Great beers, great people.

Great brewery! One of the cleanest breweries I have ever been to. You can definitely tell that they are going after the whole "do what's right" mantra. The brewery is on a lower level than the tap room and from the tap room you can peer into the production line. The only qualm I have, which is merely personal, is that the tap room is a little TOO clean. It gives off a "surgical room" vibe. I'm more into the rustic, throw your feet on the coffee table vibe. Again, merely personal and an awesome place to visit if youre around the area!

One of my favorite breweries - and the best in Maine in my opinion (yes I've been to Allagash). They had Dinner on draft when I was there (I was lucky), so I got to do a mega sampler of Dinner, Lunch, Another One, Mo, Peeper, Red Wheelbarrow, Zoe, and Mean Old Tom. All fantastic - but Dinner is their best beer. Worth the cost and the wait to buy a couple cases if you get a chance!

I stopped by on a brief visit on my way through town. As expected the beers were mind blowing. I had a flight including Mo, Weez, Lunch, and Another One. I've had them all before but it really was a treat to have them at the source in the middle of a hot July day.

Coming from New York I picked up several bottles of Lunch and was grateful for my opportunity to be there.

I stopped in here the other day on my way back from up there Maine training for work. Great location convenient to 295 just outside of downtown Freeport. Impressive tasting room with a shiny new bar and brewhouse behind glass. Several taps available for enjoying, a cooler full of bottles to go. Chalkboard behind the bar will walk you through the particulars. No growlers or kegs for sale I tried ;) Friendly attentive staff on this moderately busy afternoon. Pricing is a tad better than retail. I would return if ever in the area.

Wonderful place. There are games, there are good beers, the place is near outlets so your group can split up if you need do.

My only reservation is that the diversity of beer is pretty small: they only have 8 taps at one time. On the other hand, as a proportion of the beers that they make, 8 is pretty good.

Super clean place. Walk in and it feels like you're going into a hospital. Not a bad thing for a brewery as everything should be super clean.

Tap list is very representative of what they offer. Not a ton of taps available, but then, they don't offer a ton of beer.

Service was good. It's just a bar and a few tables, so you walk up, ask for beers and go sit.

The beers are always awesome. Clean, easy drinking, and huge flavors. Individually, they make all "taste the same" but side by side, there is a world of difference in all of those IPA's and APA's.

No hot food available, and just some local snacks if you're hungry.

Very unassuming place, and I really enjoyed my time. Will go back again.

I visited this location on June 26th while on vacation with my wife. The taproom has six sturdy picnic tables; each table can easily sit six people. The taproom also has 2 tables converted from bourbon barrels. The taproom overlooks the brewing facility. The taproom / brewing facility was impressive – clean and organized. There was a standup cooler where one could purchase bottles of the beer. Pint glasses, T-shirts, and other merchandise could also be purchased on site.

The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. My wife and I ordered the eight beer sampler with each sample served in a five ounce glass. The beer quality was excellent. I enjoyed the entire eight brews in my flight. I will definitely visit this location if I’m in this area again.

Enjoyed visiting the brewery today. Nice vibrant atmosphere and the beer was outstanding. Tried 4 five ounce samples including Lunch,King Titus , Lil one and A tiny beautiful something. I enjoyed them all Lunch was my favorite, I found A tiny beautiful something to be so smooth and refreshing. Maine Beer Company continues to impress me. The bottles are so simple and clean to look at my wife describes them as "sexy". Look forward to my next visit this summer and to continue finding there beers at home in Vt.

Stopped in for a visit over the summer. The tasting room is very austere, but well laid out. A nice bar area with tables for relaxing. Quite a few of their brews available on tap, and full bottles for sale. A large window overlooks the brewery below. Their beers make this a must stop!

visited brewery after hitting ll bean flagship store in freeport, ME. prior to my visit, I was super excited abt maine beer co; after leaving, not so much. the building is just south of Freeport, newer facility as the landscaping hasn't caught up w. the building so it looks a little out-of-place new. the tasting room is small. maybe 6-8 larger booths against the north wall. not cozy, but cold, stark, new. the staff is disengaged. it took two of my friends a good 5-10 minutes to order a couple of flights because 3 employees were too busy talking to each other to even acknowledge us. when asked for descriptions about the beer, the guy serving said that they didn't have tasting notes, and didn't even offer to supply any commentary at all. whatever - I guess these guys are banking on their beers being so good, you don't care about the crappy service.

so, the beers. like I said - prior to my visit, I was super excited to try lunch & mo & others because of all the press Maine Beer Co seems to get in forums, etc. I wasn't all that impressed. the brews seem a bit one-trick pony-ish - VERY hop forward; so hop forward that the craftsmanship was lost/overpowered. needless to say, I didn't mind that lunch & mo were not stocked in the coolers for purchase.

the music blasting from the brewery floor did interfere with the music in the tasting room, but I guess that all goes back to the service philosophy. it was cool to read about how the brewery started out of a garage & the spirit that inspired them in the beginning - wonder what happened to make it seem like we were visiting a different brewery entirely that day.

After stopping into Freeport and checking out the original LL Bean store, we arrived at Maine Beer Company that Tuesday, slightly before they opened. We had 6 adults and our almost 2 year old with us on this trip. She isn't new to breweries, so we didn't even give it a second thought when deciding to stop by Maine Beer Co. Needless to say, we were ecstatic that they had a little area dedicated to the little ones. She played around with some crayons and paper as well as getting into basically everything they had there. We decided to grab a few samples and take a look around. The tasting room wasn't a big area, but ample enough for I would think 30-40 or so people to comfortably sit / stand around and enjoy themselves. We were the first people there right before they opened at noon, however, it didn't take long for other people to follow and start to fill up the tables inside the tasting room. We sampled what they had on tap, took a look around and just enjoyed the afternoon.

All in all it was a great visit to Maine Beer Company. It was nice to see their operation and try some beers on draft as well as buy a ton of beer (mainly Lunch) to bring back with me to PA for myself and some friends. Maine Beer still remains one of my favorite breweries in the U.S.!

they keep strange hours here, or at least I missed this a number of times before I hit it open, but I am real glad I kept checking back. its a small little tasting room above a large open brewhouse that's been newly expanded. white walls, simple décor, picnic tables, it fits the motif they've generated on their labels. maybe seven beers on tap, all the hits, as well as a fridge full of bottles. the mo on tap is simply transcendent, even better than the lunch maybe. we played cards for a few hours and tried them all, what a treat! brewers were bartending, relaxed dudes, humble. the place was mostly growler fillers, not patrons to stay. we enjoyed the enthusiasm of the locals for these beers. there is plenty of room on in there for this place to grow with demand, and despite the negativity of some BA users about the longevity if maine beer company, I think they have a very solid base, and a really honest product that is just fantastic. my favorite brewery from our maine visit from a beer standpoint no doubt.
