Notes/Commercial Description:
An American ale that reserves its right to be different. A bit lighter in body, Old Court provides a citrusy hop aroma and caramel finish. 16 Mile names this ale for Sussex County’s original courthouse, which has been serving judicial needs since 1791. Today it stands on South Bedford Street just south of The Circle in historic Georgetown, Delaware.

This brew poured with a finger of pure white head that dissipated slowly, but left a half a finger on top of the body. The body was a clear, mahogany color with moderate visible carbonation on it. The nose had a bit of nuttiness and sweetness and another flavor that wasn’t really pleasant. The taste was a bit more pleasant. The flavor was a bit of a malt bomb. It had a lot of sweetness from the caramel malt and a bit of nuttiness. The only hop presence came at the end of the sip with some very mild bitterness. The finish was relatively quick. The body was medium with lower than expected carbonation. This was an alright beer, but nothing fantastic. For a pale ale, there weren’t enough hops to it.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a pretty deep copper color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, some faint malts, not a lot going on. Taste is light, well balanced malts and hops, not overly flavorful but very easy drinking. Probably better suited for drinking on a hot summer day. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Served on tap a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served an amber color with a one finger of a white foamy head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a bready and caramel smell along with some other aromas toffee. Some light smells of roasted malt as well as a little bit of grassy hop are in the nose as well producing a rather balanced aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a slightly grainy and bready taste with hints of caramel sweetness within. The caramel is light upfront, gaining intensity up through the middle of the taste. At that point the graininess begins getting stronger as well and some lighter fruit flavors of apple and pear coming to the tongue. Some lighter roasted flavors greet the tongue at the end and with a bit of toffee and a light grassy bite, end up leaving a rather moderately sweet, very lightly roasted, and grainy flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side. Both are rather appropriate of the sweeter, bready and grainy flavors of the brew matching the tastes well and making for an easy drinking brew.

Overall – A fairly pleasant and easy drinking ale. Not outstanding but nice none the less.

A: The beer is clear yellowish amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high light beige head that died down a bit, leaving a thick collar around the edge of the glass and some lacing in the center and down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of caramel and cracker malts are present in the nose along with some hints of butter.
T: The taste mostly follows the smell and also has some added hints of fruity yeast. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and a little chewy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite malty for an APA and doesn't have much in the way of hops in the smell or taste. It seems to resemble more of an English Pale Ale.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint

A- A clear dark amber with a three finger off-white head.

S- Citrus, floral notes, some sweet malts, not very big.

T- Bigger than the nose, nice balance between hops and malts, sweet malts, citrus, nice floral notes, slightly bready, slightly watery.

M- Smooth, fairly crisp, light to medium body.

O- Overall not bad, but doesn't wow me. I probably won't pick this up again because there are other local pale ales that I enjoy more.

Pour is a dark, murky, muddy brown/amber. No head.

Nose is light a sweet. Little caramel. little malt. Little sweet corn.

Taste is a little flat. Little burst of sweet malt up front, followed by a very potent but muted dry and bitter hop. Tastes like hops with a blanket wrapped around them. Little bit of boozy aftertaste of scotch.

Feel is medium, slightly medium thin.

Adequate. Fine to try. Decent option in a pinch. Not a go to though. Just kinda average.
