Little brother/sister of my favorite beer.
A: Poured it in my Rochefort glass. A great amber/brown color. Head is not too impressive. I often notice differences when opening this beer or the 10. Sometimes it gushes out of the bottle, but this time no need to be careful.
S: Caramel, malts, raisins and some alcohols. A nice rich smell.
T: PLeasant alcohols, notes of raisins but also red grapes. Some citrus, apple and of course great malts. A little bitterness, a little spice.
M: High carbonation and a medium body.
D: I see some similarities with the R10 but still good enough to stand on it's own. Very rich in taste for a medium body. This beer I could drink a few on one evening unlike the R10 that usually finishes my evening.

Pours a hazy deep brown with a foamy khaki head that dissipates somewhat quickly.
I can smell pears, raisins, and dates as soon as I open the bottle. Notes of green apple, figs, and prunes become evident, with a fairly sweet Belgian candi sugar sweetness at the base.
Flavor reveals sharp pear and bruised apple underlying a doughy, bready malt backbone. Rich and rummy, the burnt sugar malt sweetness supports complex prune and date notes well. The finish is fairly light and dry.
Body is moderate, but the high carbonation keeps it feeling light. Alcohol warmth is a bit high.
Great ester character is balanced nicely by the malt. The carbonation is higher than I'd like, and a phenolic alcohol character emerges as it warms. Wanted to like this more, but the carbonation killed it for me.
