Appearance: It pours a dark red, almost brown, body with a big fluffy head.
Smell: Sweet Belgian malts, booze, and raisins are most apparent right away. There is a touch of caramel after a few minutes and it takes on a "smokey" aroma as the beer warms. Unfortunately, the booze and malt smell subdue the other flavors.
Taste: Wow! The flavors are even more aggressive than the smell. Sweet Belgian malts are followed by brown sugar, licorice and raisins. A hint of alcohol then finishes with some dry hops. The after taste is sweet, almost resembling cola. The alcohol is somehow better hidden in the taste than the smell.
Mouth feel: It is medium bodied but feels almost creamy; carbonation is very refreshing.
Overall: This is a very aggressive, yet balanced, brew. It is a little expensive but definitely worth having from time to time. I would definitely label this beer world class.
