pours a dark brown orangish muddy color that is heavily particulate. Fair white head, fair lacing and average carbonation. smell is caramel and nutty. taste is the same with some chocolate burnt toasted hints. medium body and long flavor duration. sweet chalky finish. alcohol is well hidden but will creep up on you. probably not worth the ten dollar price tag i paid for it, but none the less delicious.

A: Poured into chalice. Very deep bronze-brown and very effervescent. Head developed some big bubbles started at about 2 inches and settled to a quarter inch and held as I waited for the beer to raise in temperature.

N: sweet, light toasted malt. Subtle biscotti tones

T: strong raisin fruit up front, pleasant syrupy and easy spices along the edge of the tongue. Clove, nutmeg. Taste quickly gives way to a clean, yet silky aftertaste and mouthfeel. Perfectly balanced, alcohol is present and warm but only detected slightly

Very pleasant beer, a new favorite now. Would try pairing it up with a thick smokey pork chop

11.2oz (330mL) bottle from Barrel and Barley (Woodstock, GA). 5.49. Best by 04/07/18- I assume bottled 4/7/13. Served in a Southern Tier tulip snifter.

Pours muddy red hued brown with three fingers of beige head. Keeps a modest layer that laces well.

Smell starts dry and earthy before revealing spice, cherries and yeast. The nose really opens up as it warms with more dark fruit, malty bread and caramel.

After a near-abrasive initial burst of spice and alcohol while still cold, it warms to reveal notes of raw cane sugar, bing cherries, fruity yeast, dates, banana, caramel, clove, nuts and raisin bread. As the chill fades the balance and layers of flavor really flesh out and moderate the alcohol.

Supple, medium body with abundant carbonation. Aftertaste of dark fruit, yeast and bready malt.

I'm much more familiar with 8's big brother but this is quite solid in it's own right. Once it reaches a proper temperature this delivers an outstanding drinking experience on all levels.

A - Gorgeous dark chestnut brown. Nice foamy head that slowly dissipates.

S - Figs, plum, brown sugar and pine.

T - Plum, rasins, and dark fruits. This beer has a very complex flavor that evolves through the palate with a pleasant caramel finish. There is a slight hint of booze and the intensity of the sweetness grows as the temperature rises.

It goes without saying for this style (Strong Dark Ales/Quads), but you will not fully appreciate this beer if served at a cold temperature.

M - Medium-bodied and smooth texture. There is a medium carbonation element present that I would prefer was a little lower.

O - One of the best beers on the market for good reason. Not as complex as the 10 but a well balanced beer with a dark fruity flavors that will not disappoint.

Big, fizzy head that requires several pours to fit one bottle in one chalice. Retention is good. Brew is a dark red, translucent, very lively beer. Any sediment was left in the bottle. No noticeable lacing.

Nutty, fruity, and spicy aroma. Strong hints of prunes, Belgian yeast, nutmeg, and cloves. Slightly sharp.

Surprisingly, extremely balanced flavor. Tons of dark fruit and Belgian Candi sugar, with an extremely nutty finish. Nothing tart or sharp as the aroma indicated. Prunes, raisins, slight hints of banana, and big yeast notes. Slight alcohol flavor. Extremely sweet, more so as it warms.

Medium-full feel. Slight foaming, and relatively warm. Long finish of caramelized or crusted sugar or candies.

Fantastic, very traditional Belgian BSDA/Dubbel. Certainly worth regarding up there with the best of the style, including Westmalle and Chimay.
