Its hazy brown body shifts to a stunning cherry amber hue when held to the light. A high level of carbonation feeds the nearly three fingers of fluffy and thick beige head with wonderful retention. This is one of the best looking beers I've ever seen. Edit: now that I've decanted the rest of the bottle and the sediment is in the glass, the haziness has increased tenfold and the beautiful cherry amber colour is harder to make out. It's still a fine looking beer but no longer a 5 for me.
Fruitcake is one of the first things that comes to mind after a quick whiff. The nose is incredibly rich. Warm and sticky raisons are layered on top of overly ripe dates and plums which are then sprinkled with brown sugar. The alcohol character is rum like and very sugary, pairing wonderfully with the dark fruits.
A hefty punch of sugary rum like alcohol steps in immediately, spreading itself along the sides of the mouth. It's pronounced but still enjoyable. Alcohol soaked raisons and dates are smattered on the middle of the tongue. The intensity of their sweetness increases as the beer moves along and the alcohol recedes. I still get a bit of that brown sugar character from the nose and it fits nicely in the taste.
Its creaminess and density is something to be enjoyed in itself. Medium to full bodied with an ample amount of carbonation and perfect balance. The booziness in the finish gives it a dry feel in the end.
This reminds me of why BSDA's are one of my favourite styles. Rich, full, and very flavourful. One bottle is a perfect serving. The alcohol presence in the taste was a bit too much for a 4.5 from me but I will be more than happy to revisit this down the road.
