Prune brown in color and opaque with floating yeast. Pours a thick head which has a soda-like appearance. Good retention nonetheless without much lacing.

Aroma is complex and sweet. Black cherries in the forefront with a sweet, tart character. Raisins and dates in the mix as well.

Big malt flavor throughout, buttery and bready with a hint of roastiness. Then the sweetness come in like a dark fruit jam spread over wheat toast. Other than the warming sensation, the alcohol is indetectable. Can't taste any hops but it doesn't matter. Awesome flavor!

Medium to full-bodied. Thickness and slick texture from the sugar balanced the dryness of the alcohol. Carbonation hits the tongue with aggressive, soda-like bubbles which ruin what would otherwise be a perfect mouthfeel.

Great stuff! Complex and delicious!

330 ml bottle into chalice, best by 5/11/2016. Pours super murky dark reddish brown color with a nice 1 finger dense khaki head that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty lacing on the glass, with a good amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of huge raisin, plum, grape, banana, molasses, pepper, clove, biscuit, toasted grains, and huge yeast spices. Incredible aromas with a ton of complexity. Taste of big caramel, molasses, plum, raisin, biscuit, banana, clove, pepper, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of dark fruit, molasses, banana, pepper, and yeast spice on the finish for a good bit. Great flavor balance and complexity. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a fairly creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel with a bit of prickly carbonation. Quite smooth to drink at 9.2%, but is still a sipper. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish noticed. Overall this is a fantastic Dubbel. Big complexity and balance; and extremely enjoyable.

330ml date 080616 not sure what that means.

A: Pours a ginamormous head (had to pour this in phases) thats a dockers beige. Finally died down a bit. A cloudy deep caramel, cinnamon/brown color, really beautiful color. A healthy head stays with brew. Leaves a patchwall of lacing.

S: Sweet hard candy. Brown sugar, touch of spice (i never know what spices), some dark fruits too. Not overly pungent.

T: Initially a pixie stick like sweet burst, then a more caramel/toffee hard candy mixed with banana/strawberry/candy apple/Oranges fruitiness. A rasin/molasses rich malt backbone. These monks sure like sweet beers. Little alcohol bite, like a nice dark rum. The tiniest hint of floral hops comes through with finish. Lotta layers here, tough to pick them out. Well balanced, nothing overwhelms.

M: Pretty high carbonation, heavy body, a nice mix of syrupy/creamy. Incredibly rich. No session beer. Great dessert beer (alone), probably would pair well with shrimp cocktail or shelfish too.

O: This style (and most trappists) seem to be a bit sweet for my palate, but their complexity of flavors is absurd. So many notes, none overwhelming.
