A dark amber beer, lots of visible yeast chuncks on the bottom of the chalice. The off white head quickly reduces to a foamy film.
It has that typical Rochefort caramel like maltiness that I like so much in the stronger version (especially the 10), dark bread, spice and a yeasty fruitiness that is much lighter than the dark dried fruit notes in the 10 and 8. Also that odd sort of pear skin sensation from the yeast.
The taste does follow the nose. It has similarities with the other two but it is much lighter in nature. Bready, caramel, yeasty fruitiness and overal quite sweet.
This is a well carbonated beer. The body is medium but the carbonation makes it quite bubbly.
Overall a good dubbel. On par or slightly below the Westmalle Dubbel I think.
