Appearance: Nearly flawless apperance, this lacing on the glass was handed down from the gods. The tawny russet hue is dusted with a bit of haze and shimmers in the light.

Smell: Hint of spice, bread crust, estery alcohol and a smidge of dark fruit show a complex yet inviting aroma.

Taste: Some phenols upfront with a pinch of butteriness, dry bread crust and carob are from the malts. Intricate yeast flavours of nuts with some leftover phenols, light esters and faint fruit round out the finish.

Mouthfeel: Light and deceiving with a nicely lined smoothness within the semi-dry palate.

Drinkability & Notes: This beer is too highly seated to be all alone, some soft cheeses and crackers are an excellent union to take the taste buds to a higher level.

from 330 ml bottle in goblet
A: mildly creamy head, very effervescent, deep coke color with touch of ruby and amber
S:alcohol, bread, malt, rich and warm
T: immediately greeted by the carbonation, malt presence is mild/not overwhelming, no real fruit past the sweet suggestion of it (no specific fruit stands out), very much similar to the brown ale style from which it is derived but not bitter,
M:creamy and fizzy, sits on the tongue and in the stomach, very satisfying
O: a very satisfying and appealing beer, a complement to the style in a very positive way, honestly i feel as though the complexity here could be a bit more manifest and the beer itself could be a little more rich and dark but overall an outstanding beer

33cl bottle from Firefly locally. Chilled slightly, opened to a fountain of foam. Poured it full on into a chalice. Head dissipated rapidly, slight lacing left behind. Great Malty upfront taste, with sugar and candy high notes. It flattened out fast and carbonation was gone, maybe a slightly older batch,. Quaffed quickly, will try again.

Poured from a 33 cL bottle into a chalice.

Pours clear and copper in color with a small yet persistent white head. No lacing. Aroma consists of sweet malts, caramel, and raisin. No hop presence at all to speak of. Similar flavor with the malt dominating again. The level of carbonation was through the roof, which did not complement the strong body of the beer well. Very prickly on the tongue, almost seltzer like.

Overall, I think this beer could benefit from softer carbonation. It's a classic beer that's been made the same way for ages so perhaps it's just not my cup of tea. Nothing was wrong flavor-wise and it actually paired nicely with some pierogies and spinach and feta chicken sausage.
