11.2oz bottle with a best by stamp putting this at an '09 vintage. Poured into a trappist goblet, the brew appears a polished color of amber to light mahogany. A finger of yellowish stained froth rises to the surface and audibly fizzes away. Rising bubbles of carbonation are agitated from solution by some imperfections in the glass and maintain a film across the top of the brew. When held to the ligh, it has a bit of ruby to orange coloration through the body and lighter hints of golden to yellow around the edges. Brilliant looking brew.

The aroma is immediately recognizable as Rochefort. Admittedly, I have drank a lot of the 10 since it is among my favorite quads and I have consumed several vintages of 8. This is my maiden voyage with the 6 and even though, it seem familiar. There is a scent of sweet dark belgian candy sugar somewhat like brown sugar but with a citrus to floral touch. Raisins come to mind but there is a persistent floral to fruity ester or possibly hop quality still present mixing with an overall perfume-like essence. At times, I almost get a feel of green tea across the nose.

The taste includes an immediate hint of dark candy sugar to raisin quality but without really any sweetness. The flavor is there, but it is dried out and leaves almost a bready inclusion of maltiness. Fruity to floral hops also play into the mix with a hint of citrus and mild solvent alcohol. For 7.5%, I almost feel like this has the strongest alcohol impact of all of the Rochefort offerings (perhaps because of the thinner body?) As it warms up, it almost has a dusty touch to the finish or perhaps mildly oxidized with again a very mild focus on something along the lines of astringent, strong tea.

This is a medium to lighter bodied brew with an effervescent level of carbonation. It is quite dried out but surprisingly carries plenty of malty flavorings without the residual sugars. For more than 7%, it is quite drinkable and snappy/crisp into the finish. The hop flavoring here is herbal to earthy and well utilized to keep the alcohol and malt flavors balanced. This is Rochefort, no surprise to the quality here. I could/would/should drink this on a more regular basis.

i feel like this is a little less exciting than the 8 and the 10. it pours hazy hand redish brown, not dark and not light, kind of dense looking. a very very robust tan head than doesnt subside at all. the nose is real spicy from the yeast, and the malt profile is big and sweet. the only problem is the the flavor doesnt really come through from the nose to the taste, and every thing is sort of muted on the palate. there is a nice fruity element to this one, but all the flavors are faded except for the yeast. the mouthfeel is great, really light and airy for a beer of such size. its real easy drinking, and dangerously so at this abv. im not sure i had the freshest bottle in the world, but i wasnt amazed by this.

This one was tasted almost exactly 4 years before best before date. Served quite cold.

Pours a dark amber/copper. Small off-white head that disappears quickly. Big carbonation going on.

The nose is not very strong, but that might also be due to my allergies. Some yeast and sweetness, dried peach maybe.

Taste is great. A lot of fruit (plums, apples), quite fresh. Not nearly as sweet as the 8 or a lot of other darker Belgian beers. Some cake (with icing maybe) but not overpowering at all. After it warmed up a bit the yeast comes through together with the malt and a hint of burn sugar, which makes it even better. There's hardly any alcohol on the palate. Fades to a nice bitterness, with some small citrus touches.

Mouthfeel is again very carbonated (which I like a lot), feels a bit heavier than the taste would suggest, very smooth and drinkable.

Overall I really like this one. It's very drinkable, yet has a great character, and most important for me: it feels really fresh and not too sweet. A very balanced beer.

Pours a slightly hazy deep golden/copper color with a good sized bubbly off white head that quickly dissipates to a cap on top. Smells of caramel, brown and burnt sugars, dark fruits, and yeasty phenols. The flavor is just what the aroma described it would be. Light and fruity with lots of dark and brown sugars with some yeasty flavors. Medium body with an insane amount of carbonation and a sweet sugary and bubbly mouthfeel. This is a very nice flavorful Belgian strong ale. I would have liked a bit less carbonation, but I say that about a lot of Belgian beers.

Poured out a nice mahogany brown with an off-white head that retained very well. Smells of bread/yeast yeast with some fruit and raisin notes. Taste has a slight breadyness to it, with the alcohol being hidden very well. Mouthfeel is well carbonated with a wet finish. Not my favorite, would prefer the 10 but still a great drink.

Excellent beer, I have tried it before and its one of my favorites so far. I'm still a beginner here so I save 5s for maybe something better :)

A-bottle, looks nice :)

S-no strong smell

T-not to strong, relatively simple, but tasty.

M-has a little breeze in it, I love it.
