Thanks to my buddy Sean for bringing back a fresh growler from the brewery. It poured a very dark brown that looked black, except where the light hits the beer and reddish colors show through; had a massive 2 finger creamy light tan head that was full of tiny bubbles and looked like a Guinness, fading extremely slowly, leaving really good foamy lacing and rings as it went down.
Smells of resiny hops up front, like a mix of fresh piney hops and grapefruit juice, followed by orange peel, lemon zest, tangerine, chocolate malt, syrup, biscuit, caramel, herbs, floral hops and light spices like pepper and coriander; the hops are the dominant aroma and smell like fresh hops were used, but the roasted grains almost have a smoky essence that makes for very nice balance and a really nice nose.
Tastes like it smells, with fresh piney hops, grapefruit, pineapple, orange peel, lemon zest, tangerine, herbs, floral hops, chocolate malt, biscuit, caramel, and light spices like pepper, brown sugar and coriander; roasted grains try to fight through, but the piney and citrus hop win the taste battle and coat the tongue with a hoppy sweetness that trails off bitter. The aftertaste is almost like a coffee, and the ABV is very well hidden, this is a rich flavorful beer.
Mouthfeel is smooth and zesty, with a nice combo of citrus and smoked malts, a medium chewy body, light and closer to watery carbonation, and a nice hoppy finish that’s bitter with a touch of sweet bread like French toast which trails off on the dry and clean side.
Overall it was a very good beer, quite complex considering that the mains drivers were basically fresh hops and roasted, smoky malts that made for a well balanced IPA. After two pints of the growler I think that this is a session beer for me and one that I will recommend trying

Pours a muddy brown color with a short creamy head with decent lacing.
The aroma is of stale grassy hops and very light roast. Some caramel.
The taste is of a mild brown bready malt. Nice floral, leafy, and grassy hop profile. Some caramel sweetness. Not overly roasty or hoppy; it is well balanced. Not overly bitter, which is typical for this style.
The feel is light with semi-soft carbonation. Light bitterness on the palate.
Decent black ale. Not a bitter blast from both the malt and hops which is nice. Drinks well.

12 oz pour into "pint" glass.
The initial experience was excellent but set the bar a touch higher than it could deliver on. Good color on the pour with nice, full hop aroma. There was no defining hops character and very little-to-no malt.
The head fell fast and left a nice layer of lacing which remained though the glass throughout.
Flavor was rather disappointing in comparison, very very bitter and the hops wholly lacked a 'flavor' component. Simply standing alone, bitter, like an analogy of some sort.
The body was light but not watery, solid carbonation but despite that there wasn't a 'presence' while drinking. Just one long, bitter draught.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.
Poured a dark black hue with a one Ginger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.
The smell featured a citrusy and peppery hop with a roasted malt a a touch if caramel.
The taste consisted of a vibrant grapefruit, with pine and a full roasted malt.
The mouthfeel was typical of the style.
Overall a very good example of the style. Complex and quaffable.

Aromas are quite citrus and floral intially. Some dark astringent roastiness follows right after but then quickly returns to the bouquet of hoppiness.
Taste follows the nose but starts with the roasted black maltiness starting off but quickly turns to bitterness from the Pacific coast citrus hops. I think there is Citra in this brew which adds a nice lemony/orange flavor throughout.
Mouthfeel is a bit too bitter overall for my liking from both the roasted malts and the hops. Overall this is a good beer, not the best Black IPA I have ever had by far but still good. One and done for me, couldn't session all night but worth a try.

This is not too bad really. I think pretty much all the characteristics you want to see in the style are here, though things could stand to be more intense. But considering some of the more lackluster black IPAs I've come across, this is pretty refreshing. Glad I picked this one up. No way it's 7.8% though. I've had almost the entire growler at this point and feel almost nothing.

Pours pitch black with a nice thick head. Not a big fan of dark beer but I really like this one. Really drinkable, nice smell goes down smooth with a good aftertaste. Already halfway through my growler after a long days work. Even with the ABV being as high as it is it is very drinkable, not a session brew but really drinkable.
