Must start by saying that this beer is getting worse the more I drink it. Planning on going out for a treat once this god awful 6-pack is done with!!! I won't conform to my typical format for this one because I need to elaborate on the taste. Forget the appearance and smell because it could never make up for the taste of this ale. It is highly acrid and leaves behind a very bitter aftertaste. The bitterness of this malty ale places it high up there on the scale of the Russian stouts minus the roasted coffee and chocolate flavors of the stouts. This is definitely a medium body ale with medium carbonation. I don't see how and why anyone would voluntarily consume this beer giving the high price to pay relative to the aftertaste. With that being said, 5 down and just 1 to go, which the hubby and I will gladly pawn off to the next lucky house guest! =)

This poured dark brown with 2 fingers of foamy head. It toasty and sweet, maybe even a little sour. The taste was more smoky and not as sweet as a Sierra Nevada: Tumbler. It is medium bodied and crisp. Given the right mood or season, a couple of these would be nice.

Clear brown color beer with a nice 1" head with fine bubbles. Sticks well to the glass and the head dissapears quickly but leaves behind a little throughout the drink. Smell has some burnt chocolate in it as well as some malty overtones. Taste is rich in coffee as well as the burnt chocolate malts. Crisp and smooth giving way to a sweet malty finish. Good tasting brown ale. Not the best but you certainly can find worse. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Great for the price to quality ratio.

Draft sample at KBJ08.

Poured clear brown color with medium off-white frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

Soft drinkable brew.

Pours a white head that dissipates quickly leaving no lace. Light carbonation. Clear copper color, smooth, good mix of hops and malts. Not a heavy beer, could be a good summer drink. Gold medal winner at the 2001 Great American Beer Festival for English style brown. No ABV in sight.
