A 500ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2013, so it's a little out of date. Purchased from Trembling Madness in York a while back and stored in my garage. Brewed with Belgian saison yeast and European hops.
Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned and lively. A very hazy amber hue with ultra-fine sediment and plentiful carbonation. Produces a vast head of creamy white foam with excellent retention; this slowly reduces to a surface layer. Aroma of tart, fruity yeast esters with hints of lactic acid, unripe apples, faint apricot/peach, natural yoghurt, subtle spiciness and a twinge of stewed hops. Sour and dry - delicious.
Tastes of sharp, fruity yeast with a bone-dry finish. Notes of green apples, lactic acid, natural yoghurt, coriander, peppery spice, faint apricot/peach, mild clove, earthiness and stewed hops. Highly attenuated and quite acidic, with a touch of funk. A mild, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with good carbonation and a satisfying body for the style. Pretty astringent, followed by an aftertaste of earthy, spicy yeast, stewed leaves and faint fruity notes.
Impressive stuff, particularly for a non-Belgian effort. Captures the essence of the style nicely. It looks great, with a hazy hue and intense carbonation. The aroma and flavour are spot-on; tart, dry, fruity and spicy, with yeast dominating the proceedings. Well-judged body. A quality brew with plenty of character - well worth sampling if you come across it.
